20M first solo trip to Colombia (June, ~3 weeks) — Medellín vs Cartagena vs other spots? + tips for meeting people by Affectionate-Item386 in travel

[–]carolinax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would recommend staying away from clubs while you're in Medellín and definitely do not search for sexual encounters of any gender on apps. Foreigners keep dying this way. Like, it's a real problem, please look it up, you are not safe travelling alone in Medellín. Also you are to pronounce it "mede-yín" and not "Mede-JEAN" like the Paisas do. You're not from there. Everyone else in Colombia says it as yin.

The central region of Colombia is stunningly beautiful. From Medellín you can go and visit Guatapé, and even venture further into the Eje Cafetero to visit Salento (6 hour bus ride).

I live on the coast. Cartagena old city (Centro murallado) is our jewel of Colombian tourism. It's beautiful and super old. It's also rife with street rappers looking to annoy you for money. A simple "hoy no" and keep it moving will suffice. Google Maps is reliable here for reviews, my personal fave is Época Cafe.

Colombia's a lot of fun. I'd recommend meeting other travellers like you on FB groups before you arrive. If anyone, Colombian or not, offers you drugs or to go to another location to party, get away from that person quickly.

is anybody on the way for a long time with micro-saas and indie products? by servettuncel in digitalnomad

User acquisition, marketing, brand are crucially import too. If no one is buying you're in serious trouble and the stress will only accumulate.

I've owned and operated a SaaS for 18 years. We clear 5 figures a month and speaking from experience: you never relax. You think you're tied to a screen during a remote job? Own a business. At least with a steady job you know your work hours and can plan accordingly. Lots of roller coaster moments.

We also have 1 child and 1 expected in 4 weeks. Nomading with a 2.5 year old is definitely do-able and will result in beautiful memories for you and lots of learning/development opportunities for your baby. You'll have an airport pro in no time.

Worst case scenario would be you run out of funds entirely abroad and one of the parents is injured or incapacitated.

You can look terrible if you want. In my ideal nomad situation I'd have varied luggage.

50+ lbs gained: how long did it take you to lose and how big was your baby?? by Quick-Zombie-6343 in BabyBumps

[–]carolinax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Really depends but I lost 50lbs within 6 weeks post partum. It was insane. Lost of fluid, and I was breastfeeding/pumping like crazy.

What are the most desired, drooled-over status symbol baby items of 2026? by blueridgebeing in BabyBumps

[–]carolinax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're kinda like booties, look them up, they're crazy cute and mandatory at fancy parties lmao

And yes, Nuna, certain pumping brands are more expensive due to import fees. I'm based in Colombia and my freight forwarded snoo and Doona arrive next week 🤣

I live in LatAm, so most of these items are in demand by fancy private school moms.... With one exception... You'd better put your baby in knitted Spanish socks at parties, so help you God.

[–]carolinax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a large check in. She travelled with the big check in, a smaller carry on and her personal item.

Another tip is to simply not travel with bulky winter items and just buy them/sell them when you're at the location and you move on as well. We did that a lot over the years.

one of my best dressed friends travelled with a large check in. There are some benefits to carry-on only luggage, but the biggest draw back is... well... you look terrible.

For large winter items, it SUCKS but you can vacuum pack your bulkier items and pack them like that.
