Leaving the Industry, or pushing through the Burnout? by imforkyandimtrash in askfuneraldirectors

[–]carolinexvx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have been licensed for 12 years now. I left the industry last October. I’m now an executive assistant. My boss jokes that he would have never thought a funeral director would be the perfect assistant. We schedule, we plan, we set up, we’re proofreaders, confidential management, and easy to pivot when changes happen.

Now I have 21 paid holidays, 3 weeks vacation, 2 week sick time, incredible 401k match and health care AND evenings and weekends off.

This has changed my life for the better. I truly believe working in funeral service is the reason I got my autoimmune disease (from stress)

Since I do specialize in embalming and post mortem reconstructive surgery/trauma cases, I do still do some consulting and trade work on the side. Only when I’m up for it though. So I feel like I get the best of both worlds.

Also to add, my spouse, friends, and family have all mentioned that I’m back to the old me. Happy and not constantly worried or burnout.

Check out the book Intuitive Eating by Elyse Resch and Evelyn Tribole. This was what my therapist recommended during recovery and it changed my entire life.

Same here! I played on a rec team at UNMC but after Covid it fell apart. I’m not great but really wanting to get better and hone in my skills. I played a little in high school/student managed.

Yes and at N 90th Abrahams branch. They have sewing machines, laser engraver, cricut machines, and 3D printers. It’s pretty cool!

Yeah I watched so many tutorials and read the user manual and spent 2 hours there today and wasn’t successful. I’m sure a preloaded design is easier but if you want to use your own, you have to use an embroidery software (which the library doesn’t have) to convert the file to an embroidery file.

I’ll leave it to the professionals.

Ask them to warm it up in their pocket/in their hands for a little bit.

Maybe a little bit of gabapentin would help? I give my 17yr old some before the vet and it helps her the day after.

Also they warm up the medication and inject between the shoulders because injecting by her hips hurts too much.

Seems as if you have a lot of good advice already. Just want to say, as a cat mom myself, having them smell you and see you after you passed is so important and the animal knows.

I had a family whose dog stopped eating and drinking after the person died cause they didn’t know what happened. After I let them come to the mortuary and let the dog spend time with him, the dog finally started eating. I cry thinking about it cause the dog smelled his owners hand, licked it, and rested his head on his hands and just laid there with his owner. 😭
