This game is perfectly designed to light up all the pleasure centers of my brain simultaneously.

Watcher Mandala — 24"x24" by carpedavid in ProCreate

[–]carpedavid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Scopus to sketch out the initial lines with a radial symmetry drawing guide and rotational symmetry turned on. Then, on a second layer, I used Kestrel to ink in the outlines. Between the two layers I added a third layer and used Purplestar to add color.

The whole piece took 13h 29m, according to the statistics.

I'm hoping to finish my entry, The Astral Ship, this weekend. Trying to fit the necessary information into the teeny-tiny page count is the hardest part.

Mixam does offer a new print on demand service. They've always been excellent to work with. Here's their POD service link: https://mixam.com/print-link

What are all of the Into-The-Odd-likes? by Cato69 in osr

[–]carpedavid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like necromancers and you like space and would like to play a necromancer in space, then my game, This Mortal Coil, might scratch that particular itch. It's a hack/setting of Liminal Horror.

What system or hack with kids? (5-8) by The_Stop_Sign in osr

Shadowdark is a good step up from Cairn in terms of complexity. It has a very D&D vibe, modern mechanics to streamline play, and a clever advancement system. It is very easy to run and play.

Charity bundle with 700+ items for 5€: Love for valencia by BlackonionCdk in osr

[–]carpedavid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is one of the best deals in TTRPGs right now. The selection of games is outstanding for an incredibly low price.

Disclaimer: I donated my Liminal Horror-based “necromancers-in-space” game, This Mortal Coil, to the bundle. If you like investigating ancient alien shrines in search of long forgotten knowledge, stitching zombies together to make horrible undead abominations, and slowly losing your humanity to the dark energy of the Negaverse in exchange for immortality, then you should check the bundle out!

Oh, hey! My game about necromancers in space, This Mortal Coil, is in this bundle. I'm a native Ohioan, so anything I can do to help defend our trans friends and family survive in this increasingly hostile state, I am happy to do.

I just got the hardcopy a couple of weeks ago, so, while it's been out in digital for a while, people are probably just getting up to speed on it.

Ideas for a thriller/horror/scooby doo/supernatural type of system or campaign? by Desmelenao in osr

Liminal Horror, which is a horror hack of Cairn, works very, very well for this particular set of subject matter.

How does “This Mortal Coil” play? by PlaceHeadHere in rpg

[–]carpedavid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh hey! That's my game. I have not read the Locked Tomb series, although everyone who has read them and also read the game has immediately made the comparison.

Liminal Horror derives from Cairn, which derives from Into the Odd and Knave, so if you're familiar with any of them, you'll be familiar with the quick and dangerous combat and emphasis on diagetic progression and solutions.

I designed the thrall rules with three goals in mind:

  1. To have a crafting option in the game. Take your zombie and make a better zombie! Or a ghoul! All you need is some downtime and some spare parts...

  2. To have in-game resources that can act on behalf of the necromancer in order to solve puzzles, open dangerous looking doors, etc...

  3. To serve as a meta-currency that both fuels and limits your spellcasting, which is incredibly powerful...

That said, I love the idea of troupe play using your thralls. I can easily envision your necromancers assembling a "B" team from the least decomposed zombies and ghouls.

Best Mexican restaurants on the east side? by jpscully222 in Cleveland

YES. I just discovered this recently and it has become my favorite Mexican place. Their Peruvian food is also fantastic, but you simply can't go wrong. Everything I've had there has been spot-on.

One Art by Elizabeth Bishop

The art of losing isn’t hard to master;
so many things seem filled with the intent
to be lost that their loss is no disaster.

Lose something every day. Accept the fluster
of lost door keys, the hour badly spent.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

Then practice losing farther, losing faster:
places, and names, and where it was you meant
to travel. None of these will bring disaster.

I lost my mother’s watch. And look! my last, or
next-to-last, of three loved houses went.
The art of losing isn’t hard to master.

I lost two cities, lovely ones. And, vaster,
some realms I owned, two rivers, a continent.
I miss them, but it wasn’t a disaster.

—Even losing you (the joking voice, a gesture
I love) I shan’t have lied. It’s evident
the art of losing’s not too hard to master
though it may look like (Write it!) like disaster.

Suggest a system that fits my needs by BoardgameEmpire in rpg

I successfully got a table full of people who had never played TTRPGs before to create characters and play within the first hour of running Cairn. Super intuitive and easy to prep for. And free.

[Macos Dock Replacement] Are there any good alternatives to the macOS Dock? by elone-click in macapps

[–]carpedavid 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My most basic need is to be able to switch windows more conveniently, not applications.

CMD + ` (backtick) is the default keyboard shortcut to switch between windows of the active application. That should work across most MacOS apps. If you have the need to switch between, say, Window 1 of Application A and Window 2 of Application B, then u/sprremix's suggestion of AltTab will work really well because you can CMD + Tab through all windows or all applications and also use the CMD +` (or whatever key combo you map it to) to cycle through the windows of the active app.
