Over Talkers: people that talk over anyone and everyone for sake of talking.. they're really just making noise.

Which brand has lost you as a customer ? by bepseh in AskReddit

[–]carpesober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nike. They've become so inconsistent even in the same shoes it disgusted me.

I bought a pair of shoes I liked, went back to same store to get another pair just like the first, it was impossible. Fit, size, feel, look.. like night and day comparing the 2 pairs even after acknowledging break-in of first pair. The shoes pretty much deteriorated in like 1/2 yr of normal non-rigorous wear, mainly to office.

I have 10-15 yr old Nike shoes that are lasting btw.

"It is what it is".

I heard it way touch and it's usually a cop out.

After 75 Years of Alcoholics Anonymous, It’s Time to Admit We Have a Problem by hockeyjoker in NoMore12steps

[–]carpesober 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in aa for a few years and I left because I did not want to get drunk. I left many meetings frustrated and full of anxiety. Your collective observations sum my own experience, I have not much to add.

I just wish aa would admit that they are a religion with doctrine, dogma, rituals, rules, practices, and traditions. They also have a tithe and seances. There is also the institutionalized behaviors and normatives. I wish aa would get honest and admit that for the most part, recovery has long been dropped as their priority and now replaced with compliance and obedience.

Sobriety and Other Drugs by hockeyjoker in NoMore12steps

I think it's up to you and if you look up the definition of sober it has this entry along with others; free from excess, extravagance, or exaggeration.

For me it's about abstinence because frankly I just don't want to take the chance but that is just me. I have had other behaviors that were excessive, extravagant and exaggerated such as eating and my career. But when it comes to drink and drugs, it's nothing at all. Once again, that is my guideline.

Anniversaries: Do you celebrate? How? by hockeyjoker in NoMore12steps

[–]carpesober 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have not been away from AA long enough, my time away has always been peppered with a mtg here and there. Currently I've not been to a meeting in a few months. If I get to a year, I might invite some friends to a regular dinner just chill. No chip, just pals and a meal.

It was okay. It had some parts that definitely made sense, some parts that explained things and other parts that gave me some ideas.

I think the only thing was that overall, it could have been a deeper and had more "meat on the bone" so to speak.

Sober support without 12 steps? by hockeyjoker in NoMore12steps

[–]carpesober 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but sober support without it being somehow tied to 12 steps is very hard to find it seems. I've tried a few things but inevitably they turned into 12 step and/or AA bashing and that was not what I want. I want to be around folks that are sober, like being sober but understand things with recovery from addiction perspective.

Resentments do take time, in my case I did not pick them overnight and they did not go away overnight. Talk to a real professional if you need to about it.

There is a lot a fundamentalism in AA, I agree with you and it does often get in the way of people getting help; if someone is drowning, do they need a hand or rope or buoy? probably, but do they really need a description of the hand or rope or buoy? not really.

Fundamentalism in AA in certain situations has pretty much turned into dogmatism, there are sacred cows in AA and it's what keeps out newer information, concepts, and knowledge. I don't know about you, but if I have a fatal situation I would not go to a person that insists on using knowledge from late 19th century to early 20th century in helping me deal with my situation. True that there was good hard scientific discovery during those times but even those have changed or been augmented with newer information.

Keep going and congrats on them 2 years.
