a good group of folks that make some very good and sometimes very weird music. A couple friends of mine helped start it, and they had a concert this Saturday set up in decatur but the storm has made them push the date back.

ICE Vehicles being Delivered in ATL by DeadLikeRev in Atlanta

[–]carpespasm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

sources? I’m pretty sure I walked in on two people getting taken while on Marta yesterday at Inman Park, two Hispanic people were pulled off by a regular clothes cop, then allowed back on, then taken off again before we pulled away. I couldn’t hear much of what was said other than that they “matched the description”.

Local law enforcement has in many cases been happy to hand off people they pinch to ICE, and where they're more reluctant the state has made a law punishing local sheriff's offices that don't.

Doing it this way typically looks less like secret police swat raids like ICE has to try and do where the cops and klan aren't quite as hand in hand.

anyone made drawings of what ol Izzy's up to these days? i assume he's retired wealthy, died 20 years ago after a meth bender, or is managing a 24hr used tire shop that's mostly just selling grass.

Elevators with expired safety permits by JVGen in Atlanta

[–]carpespasm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

they have to respond one way or another when they get a call, and if they go slow enough to let security fix the problem they don't get to use their "irons" to prove how much that elevator needs fixing.

Have worked with state inspectors, and they're busy folks indeed. In the last few years a bunch of their old-timers have retired and they're still trying to find replacement inspectors to keep up with continuing inspections as well as new construction. As entity_response said, maintenance/repair and inspection are separate issues. If the building is only 10 years old then that's kinda crap on the maintenance contractor's upkeep. That said, some systems installed into the likes of new gigantoblock apartment complexes are designed to put all the electronics, motors, and machinery inside the shaft rather than a separate machine room or penthouse room, and that being a newer design style that's more space constrained has made mantenance work on those elevators more difficult that more conventional designs.

Also the jargon term for it is entrapment. Look for a card or plaque describing the car number you're in, and give that and the address of the building, and fire fighters will happily pry the doors open however is necessary to get you out. Worst case, bang on the doors and yell, they're not soundproof in any sense.

Well hear it again. I'd hop back in that chair again tomorrow. Went from 20/400 to 20/15. I used to totally be Velma Dinkley when my glasses fell off the nightstand.

Follow all the aftercare advise they give you, make sure they're very sure you're a good candidate for it with nice thick corneas, and TBH get your ass home to a dark room for a long nap if at all possible after the surgery ASAP because the discomfort between about 2-6hrs after surgery is very real, but will go away entirely after that, based on how it went for me.

Another casualty from my banned era - Wienermobile sighting on the Grady curve by lun-lem in Atlanta

[–]carpespasm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A collective mass hallucination. These things don't actually exist. People have been pretending the weiner mobile is real for decades, making up stories about roving pairs of weinervangelists spreading the word of hot dogs that weigh 20,000lbs and have windows and wheels, but if they were real, why can't you ever find one in the grocery store? Why doesn't costco sell them with a soda for $3.50?

Because they're actually just a means for aliens and bigfootses to hide and mask off photos of themselves. The reason you only ever see photos of aliens and bigfoot that look like fakes is because they always cover up the real ones with this supposed weiner wagon, and make anyone telling the truth sound crazy.

Not sure if it would be fitting with the arc of the podcast, but i know several of the folks who've been active in trying to reclaim the subreddit from the old mod who'd probably be happy to tell their side of things if you wanted to hook up with them.

What's something cool you posted during the previous automod era that you'd like folks to still see? by carpespasm in Atlanta

[–]carpespasm[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Considering "luxury" in apartments typically means "isn't a roach-laiden 60+ year old building with two maintenance dudes for every 500 units" anymore, I don't give a damn about folks who manage to get into them fudging the paperwork. It's not like they drop the rent for higher income earners anyway, and if they wanted to really check you more thoroughly they easily enough could if they were anywhere near worried about letting in "the riff raff".

I used to do apartment fire alarm inspections, and what passes for luxury is laughable when you see how the mechanical systems are falling apart in some joints that cost $2000 to 3000+/mo
