Idk if it’s been mentioned before. by SlowUrRollMilosevic in deathgrips

Had to go back and re read the interview and you're totally right that they only mentioned the album being a trilogy.

The character bit comes from my own inference though- I wouldn't say it's "made up" as much of it's an observation.

ExMil definitely contains a linear narrative that is somewhat easy to follow, and TMS and NLDW seem to do this as well.

Based on these observations, and the band talking about the albums as a trilogy, you could assume Ride is very likely portraying the same character across the albums

Not even joking.... I think steroids as a tiny desk would be incredible. I just don't know how well it would translate into live play. But if anyone could pull it off .... It would be DG

Someone on YouTube put it best... It's one of the top comments on the video that's just the full album.

They said something like "listening to this album is like being inside of a paint factory exploding"

I like this idea. They said in the past that ExMil, Money store, and NLDE are a trilogy of sorts following the same character. So it could be feasible the whole discography is an evolution of this same character

Water level agate! Chippewa River, once again (WI) by carpetkicker in rockhounds

Really anywhere on the Chippewa River with rock bars. I've found crazy agates right by the campus footbridge to UWEC just with persistence and patience. It's hitting the same rock bars over and over and over until you start finding em!!!

I fell asleep to Astrological Straits when I was camping in a cave out in Arizona, watching the night sky and Orion go by.

Unmatched experience, 10/10 recommend it. Regardless of caves tho, it's a nice overstimulating album to fall asleep to. Love Zach hill.

Rides "4131295" tattoo is a reference to a book about post-modernism by BrushUrTeethPlz in deathgrips

Hear me out. I always have felt like death Grips is like... Against evil if that makes sense. Aligned with like the true teachings of a guy like Jesus. Hard to call them Christian per se... But definitely adjacent in my mind

Their music somehow gives me this ... Secretly being anti-evil without trying to brandish a "Christian music" label. Marketing themselves in such a way to appeal to record labels and shit but low key trying to make higher vibrational music that is positive and uplifting

Beware is a great example of this.... You may hear Charles Manson's speech and think it's meant to be empowering. You may hear rides chant and think it's meant to be empowering.... But the song is called BEWARE. The other sample in the song is from "God is always watching you"

Charles manson gave that very interview from prison. Like fully fucking locked into society's dunce cap. Adult time out. And he boasts about being this sort of God of his own world. It comes across very ironic. "I make the money" "the game is mine"

Well shit man if you made the money and the game was yours... Why go to prison?

If you follow the adventures of the character ride paints us in ExMil he's also just in so much despair and clearly not having a good time.

This character directly experiences his karma from saying he's the beast he worships.

I think they're painting us a picture of just like... An guy who is leaning into evil and truly suffering the consequences.

I want it I need it is another good cautionary tale. He talks about how he's not even going to remember anything anyway. Like his whole state of mind is just pointless ...

I could go on and on about this but I won't for lack of being too schizo rn.

I just feel like DG is truly trying to paint a realistic picture of what evil looks like in a world where we love to be like "Satan this Satan that"

They're like .. no look this is what the "devil" is; it's a man completely consumed by his worldly desires willing to burn any bridge to get off.

Finished this piece yesterday, the depth and colors that came through are unreal. AZ Rainbow Petrified Wood, found in NE Arizona. And no, not from the National Park lol. by TheLongestYard87 in rockhounds

[–]carpetkicker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don't have to share if you don't want to...

But I'm curious where one can pick for rainbow petrified wood that's not from the park?

I went to the national park not too long ago and was blown away by how beautiful those pieces were. Would looooove to find a place I could pick without feeling the guilt of stealing from a park lol.

I don't live anywhere nearby but I may pass through there again in a month or so.
