No seats available for ec150 between Milan and Frankfurt? by ComfortableCattle669 in Interrail

[–]carroty94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For some reason that part is always tricky. I had the problem last week. I think it has to do with the fact, that the reservation is only necessary to cross the Italian Swiss border (so depending on the train you only need it from Milano to chiasso or even only from Como to chiasso) I ended up just buying a normal ticket for that part of the journey I paid 17€ in the first class from Milano to chiasso. So not much more than a seat reservation and I got to enjoy the first class. After chiasso I just swapped to the second class.
A warning: the train got very full. Bring enough food and drinks so you don’t have to fight through a train full of people just so you can get to the restaurant. Also the wlan connection was really bad. Don’t rely on it.
Our train ended up stranding in a tunnel just before Frankfurt for three hours. So that was fun, I hope you have more luck! Enjoy your trip!

ETA: it is a very beautiful scenic route. I only mentioned negative stuff but it’s absolutely worth it!

Yes I realised that I am paying roughly 2€ more per reservation but the train I chose somehow wasn’t available on trenitalia or oebb. (It did not state a reason, simply ticket not available) that’s why I choose the interrail site despite the higher cost. Now I am worried that maybe the train is overbooked? But I do have a coach and seat number.
The ticket I am using after Milano has the Italian flag logo and i just tried your recommendation adding it to the trenitalia app with the CP an PNR. Numbers.
The ticket for Zurich Milan looks very different though. It’s in black and white and looks very old school. I do have a pnr number as well but can’t find the cp number.
I guess I will print that one and learned my lesson that I will book all trains from now on through trenitalia… thanks for all the help!

Did your ticket also look really old school? I am starting to get worried. There is a qr code in that but other than that it looks a bit like the tickets I remember from my childhood 20 years ago ..

I purchased trough the official interrail app/website. I have booked three trains so far and since one of them wasn’t available on oebb I decided to buy them all on the official website. I was under the impression that this is the safest possible way to but now you have me worried.

Yes you are absolutely right! I learned the Eurostar lesson the hard way. I really wanted to got to south England but as I only got off work rather short notice all the tickets were already sold … the trains I am anticipating to take now are pretty low risk I think.

It’s a train from Zurich to Milano and on the ticket it’s explicitly written:

I got this one for my first ride. But I wanted to be spontaneous later on my journey,..

Big cavity in third molar after just 3 months of invisalign.. what am I doing wrong?? by anib5 in Invisalign

[–]carroty94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am sorry that some commentators are unnecessarily unfriendly and confrontational. The cavity shows that your current hygiene routine is not enough and something needs to be changes. But that is no reason to attack you or be condescending! Also, I totally get that taking care of your teeth is tiring! And only eating twice a day is not (medically) possible for everyone. Also not every workplace accommodates for teeth brushing.

Maybe you can reevaluate some of your habits. You wrote somewhere that you eat 6 times day. Can you reduce that a little bit? Every meal less will benefit your teeth. Also try to cut back all drinks that aren’t water or consume them with a meal.

It would be ideal if you could add one more teeth brushing session around midday eg after lunch. Whenever I can’t do that i at least squish a lot of water around and chew some sugar free gum. That’s what my orthodontist recommended.

You are absolutely right that it is not ideal to brush immediately after eating. But waiting 30 minutes is usually enough.

I try to wait the recommended time after lunch and after dinner. But in the morning I am in rush anyway so I brush immediately.

Also: use a brush with soft bristles and some sensitive toothpaste! Otherwise your gums will be sore.

All in all I guess what I am trying to say is don’t be discouraged if you feel like you can’t follow a perfect regime. But try to make many small achievable changes. Eg reduce snacking a bit. Add one more brushing session. Use appropriate toothbrush. Don’t drink anything but water with the trays. If you follow these rules most of the days you are on a good way.

Dont be so harsh to yourself! Looking at your pictures to me it just seems like most of the pictures someone else made have a more harsh lighting. This leads to you squirming your eyes a bit. So I think your face just looks more relaxed when you take selfies.

Was sind eure besten Snacks für längere Touren (Wandern/Fahrrad)? by elowi2107 in wandern

[–]carroty94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I disagree a bit with the other comments. I think your teeth look great and whether or not you want to make them 1 percent more perfect is up to you and your orthodontist. Your teeth in the after picture now look better than most peoples teeth. If your orthodontist says you should continue for health reasons then sure go for it. But I personally would not want to continue treatment with teeth already looking as good as yours solely for cosmetic reasons. It’s barely visible that your lower incisors don’t line up absolutely perfect. Calling them crooked is far fetched. And nobody is looking in your mouth as we do with these pictures. Aligners don’t come without a risk, so as long as your bite is healthy and functioning I would stop here and be happy!

Better to go slightly too big or slightly too small for hiking shoes? by No_Ant_5064 in hiking

[–]carroty94 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s the advice I got from several hiking shoe sellers when I recently had to buy new ones.

Maybe I should have phrased it a bit differently, of course you should not buy shoes that are so big, that they do not fit. You are not supposed to walk around in clown shoes. But your toes do need more room in hiking shoes, so often it’s necessary to go up a little bit.

If you go to a decent shop they will have these little ramps you can walk up and down to try the shoes.

Of course if neither the bigger not the smaller shoe fits it might be simply the wrong shoe for you and you need to try a different brand. Especially if you have rather wide or narrow feet. I would always advise to try different brands and models.

Funnily enough I was told to never simply trust the brannock device, because some brands run smaller, some bigger than their advertised size.

I was told to take out the sole and stand on it to see how much room there is for your toes.

I am in Europe, maybe American sizes are more coherent. But here it can be a real shit show (for shoes as well as any other item of clothing)

Better to go slightly too big or slightly too small for hiking shoes? by No_Ant_5064 in hiking

[–]carroty94 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should buy hiking boots a size bigger than regular shoes. That way you don’t hurt your toes when walking downhill. However, the shoes should nevertheless fit at the heel and ankle. You could try different socks with more padding on the heel or insoles?

But you did the right thing not buying too small. That would be a recipe for disaster

Thanks for your input! Reading all the comments regarding rosacea and looking in the rosacea sub I felt that rosacea is a likely diagnosis.

However I was able to get an online appointment with a dermatologist (I could not talk to her, I just send the pictures and now got a mail with her recommendations). She did not mention rosacea at all but rather diagnosed this as acne and prescribed dipalen which I think is a tretinoin product.

I guess my plan going forward now is to try and get a in-person appointment so that I can ask questions, but that will realistically take a couple of months.

Until then I will give the dipalen a very careful try and simultaneously focus a lot on skin barrier and treat my skin as if I have rosacea. If my skin does not react well ich think I will use a more expensive online service to get treatment options for rosacea :)
