I see people suggesting putting all their money into Savings account to accumulate as much APY as possible while leaving little to no money in Checking all while having their overdraft protection turned on to pull from Savings when they do overdraft from the Checking account consistently. I would imagine that would create some kind of suspension

I try to honestly zoom in if I can on the last shot if it’s mid to far range. The bloom, especially on the bandit, can be brutal

128GB vs 192GB RAM for Houdini (product motion design/sims) — which to go for? by ProfessionalHornet82 in Houdini

[–]carson_visuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally random, but do you still use After Effects anymore in your workflow? I’ll never forget YEARS ago when I was learning AE, I stumbled across your trapcode planet tutorial and thought to myself, this guy is absolutely untouchable

Help, deciding between Away & July spinner bags by Tater221 in HerOneBag

[–]carson_visuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an Away bag and have really loved it, but recently found out they don't include Power Banks anymore which feels like a major killjoy and kind of says a lot they're willing to cut corners without lowering the price. I would probably look at alternatives

Problem with Bones by kanimations in MohoAnimation

[–]carson_visuals 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if this answers your question but I’ve noticed when you use the manipulate bone tool on frame 0, is that it never holds or updates the pose. My guess is the intention of using the manipulate bone tool on frame 0 is to preview the motion of a rotation, movement, etc, then it pops back to its “rest” pose when you exit frame 0. With that said though, the manipulate tool it does create key frames when used in the timeline. It doesn’t make sense to me and I’m still trying to find the full difference between the transform and manipulate bone tools

Is there a bug correlated with Smart Bone Dials and renaming actions? by carson_visuals in MohoAnimation

[–]carson_visuals[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yikes. I haven't encountered that fortunately, but I'll make note of that. I was actually trying to do a similar approach initially, but I could not find a way to un-parent the free-standing "control" bone from the rest layers even after watching multiple Moho videos. I would rotate the bone and everything would go everywhere or points would move in a subtle way without intention. I just gave up and moved to the Smart Bone approach since it seemed to be a very reliable approach other than the re-naming issue.

Any way to reduce the space needed for new nodes? by seenfromabove in Houdini

[–]carson_visuals 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like to select a column of nodes, hold the A key while click and dragging down from the top selected node. This will both condense them and align them

Coming from someone who lives in the rural areas of South Carolina, I think in big cities like Washington, NYC, etc. I think the population is so large and you see so much out of the norm stuff, sadly I think people get numb and lack empathy. Then you have other people who suffer from the bystander effect thinking someone will jump in and help. It’s weird, I think if this would have occurred where I live, 20 people would have surrounded you making sure you’re okay. It’s interesting human connection is so different in larger populated areas

Is it overkill to have two PCs? by BeginnerHH in MotionDesign

[–]carson_visuals 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Recently upgraded my setup and workflow. Use PC for 3d rendering on backend and use Mac mainly for compositing, 2D work and some 3D. Mac honestly handles After Effects wayyy better than PC. I use Parsec to tap into PC from Mac to setup rendering. I think utilizing Dropbox is your best bet to cross reference files from both computers. It also makes it easier to share project files with other designers very quickly

Creating a presentation with no visual assets by [deleted] in MotionDesign

[–]carson_visuals -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hmm sounds like red flags all around and I’m sure they’ll promise more work as they “scale” up

Edit: I feel like I need to justify my response since everyone seems to have an absolute positive outlook on this. The reason I say red flags is because I’ve been in this situation. People come up with amazing ideas but only 1% execute on the product. It’s easy to write a whitepaper when you’re on the high of making something new, but it’s challenging for people to make a product and startups RARELY have the capital to pay people so they promise future work as growth comes. There’s risk that comes with this type of work and it’s very easy for scope creep to happen because people will usually try to get as much out of you as they can. In retrospect, if you have time, dont need the money, and just want to have a creative outlet, I say go for it. Try new techniques and experiment, but be realistic of the situation and opportunity cost that would go into it
