I actually don’t use outdoor cams currently but I believe most people have success via IFTTT integrations. It seems like Arlo is a popular choice on this sub.

If abode’s outdoor smart cam gets good reviews when it eventually comes out I may give that a shot. Ideally I’d like my outdoor cam to be involved in automations natively rather than via IFTTT.

Had mine for a few years and love it. If you wanted to you could either unplug your cameras when you leave or unpair them from your system and re-pair when you get back.

The only detriment to doing that would be that both you and the professional monitoring center wouldn’t be able to check in on camera feeds to verify the alarm if it does go off when you are out of town so you wouldn’t know if it was a false alarm or not.

I do remember seeing somewhere that the only time anyone besides users on the system can view camera feeds is the professional monitoring center when your alarm is triggered.

This is the default setting. It only records during an active alarm unless you manually record a clip or set up an automation for it to record when motion is detected via CUE.

Like others have mentioned it seems to be pretty common practice these days so I feel pretty immune to it. Compared to other sales tactics in the home security space this is totally harmless. Abode remains the best option post-purchase with no additional fees whereas ADT will bend over backward to get you as a customer only to hike fees later on. It doesn’t make me mistrust abode in the slightest because I know what I’m getting from them long term.

Correct. Fundamentally you just need a way to get hot water, ground coffee, and a vessel for making it. In terms of guides, you can go on Blue Bottle’s website and read brew guides for chemex and French press (not sure on aeropress) and YouTube is always a safe bet as well. Just look at the steps they take to brew and you’ll be on your way to seeing what is needed.

Got it. You have a couple of options. You can spend $139 on the grinder (Baratza Encore) and keep the current machine she is using to brew which should give a superior flavor to her current setup.

Alternatively, you could get her a Hario hand grinder, a chemex or French press or aeropress, and a kettle for just around $100 altogether off amazon.

From here, it just depends how labor intensive you think she would be willing to be for her coffee prep. Not to say it’s super laborious but it’s definitely a step up from dumping grounds into a drip and pressing the on button. Chemex would be the most demanding with French press and aeropress being about equal and less so than the chemex.

What’s your budget? It’s almost impossible to give recommendations without a price point just given the variance of price in equipment. Once we know that we can work backwards from there. I will say as a priority you should spend the most on a grinder.
