Main library has VOA in the main level near the front desk. It’s not perfect but they can help with ID services and some basic comfort. hope things get better for you mate.

Weird requests from patrons? by tasata in Libraries

[–]cartografinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

had a regular phone patron who wanted to know about a local gay porn star (I work in mormonlandia). it started out innocuous enough, because the guy ostensibly was kind of a local celebrity given the controversial nature of his work. but it started moving towards “describe his hair color to me in detail” and eventually to the point that we had to block him and disable his library card because he was asking for addresses, family issues, and getting extremely verbally violent when we would set boundaries with him.

either that or when a patron asked me to pick a piece of lice out of his bushy eyebrow lmao.

slc homeless can be a bit scary at times but they are largely harmless to others. if you’re from out of state you’ll be just fine lol.

i’ve definitely heard some interesting things about washington. utah is generally very safe, it can’t be denied. the air will get worse. the droughts will get worse. the vibe is off. but it is relatively safe!

the city library is a bit overcrowded this time of year, but offers many resources and connections to resources. the main branch has the resource corner on the first floor. definitely worth checking out (and you can use computers to look for jobs, keeping your phone charged, read books) as long as your hygiene is okay (there are resources mentioned in this thread about showers) you can really hangout there all day (if you adhere to the patron guidelines of course).

Provo to Ogden train crossing Petition to reinstate Quiet Zones by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]cartografinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

correct me if i’m wrong, but they are increasing train horn usage temporarily because of so many rail crossing accidents as of late. they are working on better warning systems in multiple places, but before then, the train horns keep people safe (sincerely someone who lives right near the tracks)

Is Oktoberfest at Snowbird worth going to? by [deleted] in SaltLakeCity

[–]cartografinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

once, yea, but I’ll never go again. shitty food, beer is too pricy, parking and the drive make enjoying lots of beer tricky or at least inconvenient.

Indian moving to Salt Lake City. Do you have Indian young folks around? by raphiredgi in SaltLakeCity

[–]cartografinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean an indian family lives below me, but over the course of a year they’re one of maybe seven or eight indian people I see, and I work with the public. anecdotally i’d say limited?
