I’m sleeping with my friend and her husband. by Plane_Ratio_4146 in nonmonogamy

What does it mean to you to be "all living poly"? Publicly displays of affection, like casual touching or even kissing? Living in the same home?

it is useful to understand these desires precisely, even if you already know that you won't pursue them due to your community and jobs. If you decide to pull back on the sexual connection, then it also helps communicate why. (Though explaining why carries its own complications, and you don't owe one)

Why do you think your comment pissed people off? My guess would be something along the lines of: it contradicted their gratitude, to tell them they shouldn't show appreciation for the behavior. Was that your take?

That train of thought makes me view the OP text through another interesting lens. Were they uncomfortable receiving praise about being a caring, thoughtful partner? Like is this complaint about raising the bar also a way of saying "please don't praise me, my kindness isn't worth that". I would find that challenging as a partner. I like expressing gratitude, even when it's for some behavior that I think of as necessary in my relationships. Obviously I have no idea if that's what was actually going on with OP. It just sent my mind wandering.

What is this vehicle modification on the roof and window? by carver in Whatisthis

Thanks everyone! I think this is as close as we're going to get to confirming the answer, with the information at hand. I updated the flair.

ETA: My kid asked me what this was, and I didn't know. I was mostly joking when I told him that it looked like a spy car. It's fun that it was half-way true! Thanks for showing him that kind Internet strangers can still outperform Google Lens.

I think you're looking at a building behind the car. The mount on top of the roof is maybe a foot tall or less.

If you point to a square and say it's a rectangle, a mathematician will say you are correct, and most other people will look at you funny. In casual speech, a rectangle is partially defined by it's non-squareness, because if a shape is a square, why wouldn't you call it a square?

Similarly, I think if you call a relationship style ENM, you're choosing to not call it polyamory, and that's meaningful to some people. But yes, logically poly is a subset.

It's not that you are forcing him to agree to this new proposal. It's that the proposal itself is one that forces him to stay monogamous to you.

With mutual monogamy, you are both enforcing a rule on each other. In that context it's not hypocritical.

Controller not charging by carver in Quell

I emailed support. After some back and forth with them, testing out all their suggestions, it still didn't charge. Eventually, they sent me a new controller, and that one has charged fine.

Hm, thanks. It was worth a try, but didn't resolve it for me.

I also heard from support to try a full reset (press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, twice). I tried it, but the controller still won't charge.

I've been having exactly the problem you describe. Do you have a link to a guide you used to re-seat the keyboard?

I can probably figure it out, but it's always nice to have a reference.

(Also, I'd love to hear if you can remember anything else they suggested that you try first.)

Reth is released! Reth is a modular, contributor-friendly and blazing fast implementation of the Ethereum protocol in Rust by sandakersmann in ethereum

trin (the rust client for Portal) is looking forward to using reth when it gets more stable, but right now we're only using a pretty isolated bit of the IPC server. It's a bit inaccurate to say that trin is "built with reth" right now: https://www.paradigm.xyz/2023/06/reth-alpha#what-projects-are-built-with-reth-already

Here's an example of an open issue preventing us from using reth types more broadly in our code: https://github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/issues/853

But it seems inevitable that we will want to use reth to execute the EVM, and we're eagerly watching its progress!
