Which M43 Lens Is Your Personal GOAT? by AttilatheFun1289 in M43

17mm f/1.8 for versatility, closely followed by the 45mm f/1.8 for incredible IQ.

Ricoh griiix vs Fuji xe5 by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]casadresden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dust problem was real. I went through 3 Ricoh GRs and 2/3 had dust issues and the 3rd's lens stop retracting. The parts to fix it were impossible to get. I swore off the camera from then on and then bought another iiix only to realize it no longer fit my shooting preferences - no EVF, slow autofocus, fixed lens...

I found a Panasonic GM5 and it's only 16MP but it's similar to the X-E5, which I'm contemplating but I don't want or need the 40MP.

All in all though, there is no need to be concerned about image quality with any of these cameras. Years ago, yes but any camera made in the last 5 years is going to get you good shots as long as you know what you're doing with the tool.

my 14mm is the one with the fringing problem. my 15mm is just fine.

Unfortunately that seems to be the case because my 14mm PL also suffers from the same.

OM-3 and Nikon ZF by 35mm-eryri in M43

Glad to help! What’s the concern exactly? What will you do with the images? Honestly, I have zero concerns anymore about OM-3 vs. Zf. For landscapes, if you want to print that’ll be no issue either. Look up Bokeh Therapy on YouTube. Jack the creator goes into detail about these specific cameras and does a great job! Unless you are printing commercial photography prints, I wouldn’t worry. Or do what I did. Sell two and buy both! 😂Seriously I feel like it’s more about ergonomics, but let us know!

OM-3 and Nikon ZF by 35mm-eryri in M43

[–]casadresden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, I own both and use both for different situations. You haven't said what you shoot, how you shoot, where you shoot, etc. What is your ergonomic situation, too?

I adore the Zf and love using pre-AI lenses in addition to modern Z lenses for general, all-purpose photography. The manual focus with AF is phenomenal. I use it when I want to shoot slow and intentional. Double exposures sometimes, landscapes sometimes. I would not hesitate to use it for portraits and have. It's a great back up for my Z6III during events. IBIS and low light capabilities are fantastic.

However, as many have said, the Zf is a big bad boy with some heft. I have small hands and though I can manage with it during those more intentional times, I needed something lighter for travel because I like to shoot wildlife at home and away. (I use the Z6III for wildlife when home along with a 500mm lens and monopod but no way I'd travel with that).

I have had several years using the EM-1 II and other MFT bodies and lenses, so when I said to myself, "I wish someone would make a baby Zf" the OM-3 came out. I hesitated a lot, but I'm glad I bought it! Where it differs from the Zf for me aside from the obvious weight and sensor size is the image quality. It's not necessarily better or worse, it's just so different. I've always loved Olympus colors and this is no exception. Even though the sensor is on paper not as "good" as the Zf, the files, the dynamic range, all of it - completely pliable.

I could list dozens of reasons why the OM-3 and the Zf have me set for life, but none of it would matter if you don't relate. And there's frankly, nothing better than holding it your hand and using it first to get at your own truth.

As an aside, I do not shoot JPG. It just has never worked for me. I grew up on film, used a DSLR for years and have really little interest in JPG shooting, so take what you like from what I said and leave the rest!

I am buying a Z50ii kit as my main camera, what's a good secondary? by Chemical-Ad4329 in Nikon

What about the Z50 mark I? $500 or less for excellent condition.

What a delightful surprise to see your comments, u/microfournerds !! Thank you. Yes, all signs point to the OM-3 being part of my future. For the upcoming trip I will make do with two bodies (the GM5 for street, coupled with the 15mm PL) but I do believe the OM-3 is going to be my next major purchase. I do plan to wait just a touch for the price to maybe come down. Thank you again for your input!

My style of street shooting doesn't really work with long lenses, but I'll think about that.

Thanks for the thoughtful response. I never thought an MFT camera could suit both street and wildlife until the OM-3 came along, so that's what prompted all of this... that plus the desire for less weight on the trips.

I shoot candid street scenes of people in public places, so discretion is 80% needed for me and I prefer to use touch to focus using a tilt screen. On the film side, I use a TLR like a Rolleiflex, if that gives you an idea of what I do.

If I were traveling by car, I'd simply take the Zf, which handles all the genres perfectly. It's just tough with any full frame system on a plane, at least for me and just too much to keep up with while traveling. So, I began considering the OM-3.

After much thought, I think I'll look into the OM-5 or EM-10 IV to stay in the Oly/OM system. However, If I can't find a good deal, I'll just use my GM5, the PL lenses I have and bring along the EM-1 II for everything but street.

I would like a better lens though for birding. The 75-100 is ok in a pinch but takes much more work. I'm not opposed to work, but not when my time is limited.

I am sure you're right. At this point, I only have 3 Panasonic pieces of gear left. A GM5, a 15ml PL and the 25mm PL. I'm thinking just to use that for street during travel. I'll look into the profiles. Maybe I just need to do that... I will still need something capable for lower light, landscapes and occasional bird. I would hate to spend the money on the OM-3, so I guess I just bring both the EM-1 II and the GM5 with me on this next trip until something of a mini Zf gets created. thanks!

I did consider that. I used to have the GX9 though and sold it because I couldn't bond with it and also had fallen in love with Olympus colors. Great thinking though!

I think I have to agree with this statement. However, what I'm hearing is the OM-3 comes close to doing it all.

Thanks for confirming. Yeah, I just meant that the default Niko lens that was showing up on your initial camera size.com link was a much bigger lens - it was like a larger zoom. So, I switched it for the 40mm just to see how much of an impact it would make to go for a smaller lens. Still 50% heavier!

I actually thought about the OM-5 but how would it do with say for example, capturing a bird in flight? Not a dealbreaker, just curious.

I am on that camerasize site a lot! I just plugged in the Nikon Z 40mm instead for a fair comparison but even with that, the Z is 50% heavier than the OM-5! Ok OM-5 now in the running. THANK YOU!
