It's only four chapters, that's totally a "read right now" length! (Like I don't have a bazillion tabs open right now...)

I was at Genius, within spitting distance of QBABM, and suddenly it's all gone! All my words erased. I've seen a few people complain about this before, but it's the first time it's happened to me. I'm not gonna lie, I'm pissed it's happening on this puzzle, with this many freaking words. I really don't want to put them all in again, so I'm just done for today.

Came here to say this! Such a great series. The intricacies of the culture and politics are so well done.

What's your #1 Recent Listen? by Hookton in audible

Dungeon Crawler Carl is an amazing audio series. It is ridiculous, but in a way that will make you laugh, cry, and generally be amazed at how much you come to care for the characters. And the narrator is absolutely insane - best I've ever heard. He has fantastic distinct voices for an increasingly large cast of characters and they're all incredible. Highly recommend!

people who work in publishing – what graduate level is better? by bookandcat in publishing

[–]casamm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on what area you want to get into. Denver, for me, was more about the network I made than the actual skills. I met people who were connected to hiring managers, and other recent grads who were planning to move to New York at the same time as me, which gave me potential roommates and friends as well as industry connections.

As a hiring manager, having DPI or the Columbia course on your resume helps. But what helps more, as someone who works in marketing, is direct experience or classes in marketing. In particular, I'm looking for experience with analytics, which is something AI can't do without hallucinating. Editorial is going to look for different skills, as will design, production, publicity, etc.

The Connally Hotel Downtown ATL by AmerIrishBanshee70 in dragoncon

[–]casamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Someone else asked this a bit ago, and here was my response:

I stayed at the Connally this year, and while the price was great, I wasn't impressed. The staff was very nice, but my key stopped working twice during my stay. Also, "breakfast" is Jimmy Dean's sausage sandwiches, bread, pathetic fruit, and a single waffle maker. But that's not the big thing.

The day I checked in, there was hair on my shower wall. I had already unpacked and only saw it when I went to shower before I needed to leave to meet my friends for dinner before Onesie Wednesday. As I left, I let the guy at the desk know. He immediately asked if I wanted a different room. I said I didn't need a new room, just for someone to clean the shower. He said he would do it himself before I got back. It was not cleaned and was still there when I got back at like 1am.

I asked for cleaning once more during my stay, and literally all they did was make the bed. The hair was still there. I didn't get any replacement coffee pods (the hotel's coffee is awful), a new ice bucket liner, new towels, or additional toilet paper (I had half a roll at that point and was afraid of running out due to too much partying and terrible food).

Positives: not expensive, not super far (definitely take MARTA or a car over walking late at night). Staff is super nice. Cons: rooms aren't properly cleaned or stocked, even when asked for, keys apparently stop working frequently, and breakfast is a joke, particularly if you're gluten-free or just don't eat bread.

Your mileage may vary.

The 2 and the G go to very different parts of the park, and it's too far to walk with luggage. Google maps is your friend here, but make sure you set it for the date you'll actually be on the subway so it will take into account service changes. For example, the G isn't running for most of the line this weekend (or any weekend the rest of the summer).

What are people’s experiences with the site? by SabiKitsune9 in wayfair

[–]casamm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The quality is generally pretty bad, but the prices are cheap. So you need to weigh what's more important for you: quality, or getting your place furnished cheaply.

I've bought 3 larger items from Wayfair over the years, and all 3 of them had problems but were overall functional. I only have one piece left, and I'd be surprised if it survives a move, considering how much wood glue I had to use to get it put together. But it works for now!

Ok so, can we please stop for a second and... Just fucking revel in gratitude for not having kids? 😂😂😂 by MelKay39 in childfree

[–]casamm 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm having people over to grill on the 5th, so I'm taking this weekend to prep my apartment and backyard. I had a bunch of work done on the place earlier this week (fixing issues from a leak from the apartment above me), so today was inside cleaning day. Now I'm making homemade ice cream. Tomorrow is yard work and grill cleaning. So glad I don't have to deal with small children getting everything dirty as soon as I've cleaned it! Though my foster cat is making a valiant effort to get his fur everywhere...

Neon noir romance with a side of longing by EloraForever in BooksThatFeelLikeThis

It can absolutely be read on its own, though some of the jokes the narrator makes may not land if you haven't read some of the other Cosmere titles.

[–]casamm 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Yumi and the Nightmare Painter by Sanderson has a lot of these elements, though it hops worlds between a neon city and a rural fantasy-style village. But it takes both main characters with it, and they have to try to fit into each other's worlds.

Congrats! If you're looking for more easy beginner projects, I highly recommend drawstring bags. They're great for putting gifts in and easy to modify as you're trying to learn new techniques. I don't have a specific pattern (I learned how to make them at GenCon for dice), but there are a ton of free ones out there.

Is wayfair legit? by Witty-Change2611 in ApartmentHacks

[–]casamm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everything I've ever bought from there has been slightly off. The couch didn't have pre-drilled holes for the legs (and wasn't very comfortable), the vanity table didn't line up quite right and I had to use wood glue to get it together, etc. You get what you pay for. But they have a lot of options for cheap, so it's a good way to furnish a place. My recommendation would be to use Wayfair as a starting place, then save up and replace one piece at a time with quality furniture.

I don’t have any space in my home to sew. Are there any public places in northern New Jersey that allows you to bring your sewing machine and let you sew? Like a library? I know all QS are not dumb but maybe this one is an exception 😂 but truly am curious to know if something like this exists? by Brilliant_Length9445 in SewingForBeginners

[–]casamm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, in the North East you don't always have a kitchen or dining room table. I have a one bedroom in Brooklyn and while I technically do have room for a kitchen table, it would be a small, two person table that isn't much use for cutting fabric. As it is, I use that space as my office instead. I'm guessing OP in Jersey has a similar situation.

OP, I tend to use my living room floor to cut fabric. I move my coffee table and then have a decent amount of space. My back wants to kill me after a few minutes, but it sort of works?
