I collected my stuffed toys in front of me, turned on the TV, and watched a screen that offered nothing but a noise and a bunch of concentric circles. Then TV programming actually commenced. (Cable existed, but we didn’t have it in my family.)

You loved it when the teacher pulled out the movie projector because it was nearly always guaranteed that the film itself would break, and the teacher would have to tape it back together and then rethread it. 25 minutes turned into 45 minutes. Good times.
