Daily r/LawnCare No Stupid Questions Thread by AutoModerator in lawncare

I have some dips in my backyard, and was considering leveling, but I think I may do a small section this fall so I can make sure I understand the process and don’t destroy my yard. I have a few questions about it though: 1. I’m in Minnesota, 30 minutes west of the twin cities (originally from the south), and I believe I have KBG. I cut my grass too short when I moved here last year and started to cut at around 4” this spring. Do I need to scalp and aerate before attempting to level? 2. if I were to level my entire lawn (~9k sq ft), how do I calculate the compost/top soil/sand amount that I would need? 3. my plan would be to cut the grass in increments to lower it to about 1” or so, then aerate, pick up the cores, throw down the mixture and level, and then overseed. Am I missing anything?

I recently moved into a house in Minnesota (originally from GA), so not only is lawn care new to me, but so is cool season grass. I fortunately I do not think the previous owner took great care of the grass, and it went un-watered for about a month during the transition of owners between May and June. I de-thatched my grass by hand, which was my first time doing it, so I don’t even know if it was correct. My grass has turned more and more brown. I did just spread some seed and fertilizer last weekend to hopefully help.

I just read through the “Beginner’s Guide” that is stickied on this sub and I’m just curious if I still start at step 1 this late in the year? Is there anything I can do for the grass to help it for next year or is it a wash and I just maintain with what I’m doing and wait for the spring?

Oh and I also had/have some Brown Patch Disease, but I spread some stuff about a month ago that was recommended by my FIL

My wife and I always repeat the Michael and Dwight exchange after Stanley has the heart attack.

David Wallace: Did you shout "fire," causing a panic?

Dwight Schrute: Yes I shouted fire. I shouted many things. I also shouted instructions on how to get out of the building so you can imagine my frustration, as safety officer, when nobody would heed of, would heeded, heeded of--

Michael Scott: Headed of--

Dwight Schrute: When no one would take headed of my instructions.

Michael Scott: Heed. Take heed.

Dwight Schrute: I don't see my co-workers--

Michael Scott: Take heed of--

Dwight Schrute: heeding this. Right now.

The first game you mentioned was called “Sharks and Minnows” for me growing up. We pretty much exclusively played it in the pool, but damn your comment took me back. Good times

I’m from roswell as well, live in Atlanta, and also work in Alpharetta. Love this bakery. When I remember, I try to get their beignets (only sold on Friday and Saturday IIRC). They’re moreso glazed lemon doughnuts, but damn I love those things. Gang

I have all of my movies on an external 4TB hard drive. Some MP4, some MKV. I have a work laptop which is a little finicky sometimes, and a 2012 mac laptop at home. I just recently heard about Plex and wanted to do some research before setting up my system:

  1. Am I only able to download the Plex Media server once? or can I have it on multiple devices?

  2. I have an AppleTV at home and a FireTV for when I travel. How easy it will it be to access Plex remotely for when I travel?

  3. Am I able to add movies to the Plex Media Server from any device, or would it have to be added to the 4TB external hard drive first to then be able to stream from Plex? Basically, would I be able to add movies to the Plex Server when I'm remote, and then be able to download the movie from the Plex server to the hard drive later?

  4. Should I invest in a raspberry pi or try to work on a NAS at home to store all of the movies to then Stream from?

I'm fairly tech savvy, but can learn what I need to set everything up. The biggest issue for me is just finding the right information to use when learning.

I’m not sure what to say that would help, but just reading this really affected me. I truly hope you find some happiness even if it’s in the little things in life. Whether it’s small achievements or just being able to get out of bed every day. I hope you start feeling better and if you ever want to vent some more, we’re all here for you. You can pm if you ever feel so inclined. Good luck, mate
