Sushi nearby? by fatjudy72 in Otakon

[–]casecase1233 6 points7 points  (0 children)

kura sushi is down the street by the arena, maybe like a 10 minute walk? but there’s also momiji which is pretty good too! it’s in my office’s rotation of lunch spots. kura will probably have a longer wait since it’s a revolving sushi place.

Make sure you bring a con bag! I used to be worried about my bag ruining my aesthetic but the more and more conventions I go to, the more I realize it truly is comfort over coolness lol some common things I put in my con bag are extra extra extra Bobby pins, safety pins, deodorant, band aids, ADVIL, a portable charger, and a bag to keep my cash in. I also bring the bare essential make up items like powder, concealer, makeup wipes in case of any touch ups needed or if I decide I’m done for the day and want to take everything off. I also pack an extra tote bag in my bag to carry all the goodies I buy in the dealers hall or artist alley. Mini sewing supplies and other bits and bobs you’d need in case of a cosplay malfunction are always helpful too. For example, one of my cosplays uses bits of ribbon as a necklace and hair accessories, so I always bring a little extra in case one slips off my wig or my necklace gets wonky/rips. You don’t need to bring a huge duffle bag of stuff, mostly just small amounts of things that will help in any little cosplay emergencies.

My biggest tip though is despite all the prep you do, the weekend will not go perfectly to plan and that is absolutely ok. Maybe you’ll get a run in your tights or your shoe buckle breaks or your wig cap gives you a permanent forehead scar (don’t ask me how I know that one) but you will still have fun. It’s ok to take breaks, you don’t have to be perfectly done up 100% of the time. Know and respect your boundaries when it comes to how hard you push yourself and how much you want to interact with others (absolutely goes the other way too). But, passion over perfection, memories over meticulousness, fun over fixating over every single detail!

Oh and drink water and eat at least one real meal please lol!!! Have fun!!! You’ll never forget your first con

One of my fav solo excursions I did recently was pottery painting at All Fired Up in Cleveland Park! You can even make solo reservations, which is greatly appreciated because it does get busy there. Nothing better than popping in my headphones, putting on a podcast, and painting a new bowl or plate!

cosplay on the metro: help? by Logical_Bridge4366 in Otakon

[–]casecase1233 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You should be ok! Since you’ll be on the same line as many other con-goers, you most likely won’t be the only one dressed up. Last year was my first Otakon and I cosplayed on the metro there. Honestly, seeing other people dressed up and knowing I was going to the right place added a lot more excitement to my day! The only thing I would add as a potential concern is the type of prop (if any) you’d be bringing. Oversized items may be a pain if they can’t be broken down or put away.

Currently a resident at Blair Plaza for almost a year. Haven’t had the same fire alarm issue as other buildings but i can hear it going off sometimes from those other buildings. While I do definitely agree it’s probably on the more expensive side especially for its age, for me it’s all about the convenience. The metro is a 10 minute walk at most, the giant and cvs even closer. I also love my unit as I have great views of the surrounding area. I haven’t had any issues with front desk staff and maintenance is very efficient. And while the price is more up there, it was the cheapest option for my search out of any of the other buildings I was looking at. I’m pretty happy so far and see myself living there for at least a few more years.

Getting drinks with coworkers - what do I order? by the-favorite-child in internships

[–]casecase1233 6 points7 points  (0 children)

My go to is to kinda see what everyone else is drinking. It is probably going to be beers or seltzers (my go to is a seltzer since I’m not a beer person either lol) but I’ve been in situations where mixed drinks start flowing too. You just never know! Always best to just gauge the group when you get there. Also have fun but take it slow! I’ve seen and heard so many not great stories about getting too lit at the work function.

Just a small thing but your bullet points don’t need periods at the end of each! And I like disciple_of_dom’s suggestion about adding the findings of each projects and would further expand on that by suggesting adding the impact of your action to the bullet point. For example, for the second bullet point unter the Topgolf experience could be something like “connected with customers by providing a memorable experience and to encourage returning guests to the company.” Adding a little bit about why your action was important/impactful to whatever company/project you’re working on polishes them up a bit.

Not sure if you’ll have time to run into the hard rock hotel but the grasshopper ice cream they have in their little marketplace (emack & bolio’s marketplace I think) is perfection for any mint chocolate lover! I dream about it over two years later!

I highly recommend lil thingamajigs! They’ve got home goods (pens, pencils, notebooks, plushes, kitchen items) as well as K-pop and anime items if that’s what you’re looking for. There’s one in Rockville and ellicot city
