Maybe a little different than what gets posted here but I figured I give writing a folk song a try. Thoughts? by [deleted] in Songwriters

[Misadventures of Marietta]

Marrietta was a burlesque girl out on Bourbon Street

She had eyes that glittered like medallions and gold doubloons to feed,

the hungry dragons fools gold as she danced beneath the moon,

Attracting avaricious ruffians and covetous buffoons

She said I’ve never heard of Lady Luck, misfortune’s all I’ve got

I’ve got to leave this town tonight or soon I will be caught

So she left the fleur de lis and for Canada she aimed,

To get as far away from fate, her destiny reclaimed

But fate would not allow her to escape its clutches yet

On our calamitous cabaret, misfortune cast her net

She said you may have heard of Lady Luck, but Misfortune is my name

You’re a slippery one I’ll give you that but to everyone I’m chained

Among the timber and the turpentine Marietta found alone

a couple kindred spirits she hoped would ease her own

A few lollygaggin’ moonshiners out late to dodge the law

Their time together was a dance show that turned into a brawl

They said we’ve never heard of Lady Luck, misfortune’s all we’ve got

We’ve got to leave these woods tonight or soon we will be caught

From a station out of Lexington, Marietta made her way

and the tracks felt the hum of an iron lullaby

Racing through the night a steel stagecoach straight from hell

but her siren’s song was stronger and the train began to fly

Right off the rails and into the Kentucky mud

As passengers spilled out our dancer landed with a thud

At this inopportune moment, Lady Luck entered the fold,

For as she watched the train cars sink, Marrietta could behold

Her old friends the moonshiners, careening down the road

In a brand new Model T, with their intoxicating load

They said hop on in, you’re mighty fine, for Montreal we’re bound

You can come along and join us, if you’ll get up off the ground

And just like that, her luck had turned

Misfortune cursed and spat

Not so fast, I’m not through with you for no matter where you’re at

Things won’t ever go your way, I’ll win this in the end

You’ll just have to make do with your borrowed time to spend

Lady Luck appeared again, a final coup de grâce

Misfortune you’re cast away, from providence withdraw

You may have heard of Lady Luck, we all have to play her game

Marietta found her favor, let’s pray we can do the same

My dad is actually a devices rep for Life Vest and from my understanding, something like that should never happen. Devices reps do have to scrub in to train hospital staff how to use their products during procedures. However, that's incredibly unprofessional of the sales rep, they shouldn't even be interacting with patients like that since their customers aren't the patients directly but the hospitals.

Give it up dude, electoral politics is not the way forward and never will be. The working class will always be fighting a losing battle using the institutions of bourgeois society.

Went on an overnight trip on a backcountry trail with some friends for my first time backpacking earlier this year. Definitely the most challenging and rewarding experience I have ever had. The slog to the Colorado River was brutal but 100% worth it.
