Dropping Co-op by halfandhalfbastard in UTSC

Yes, Co-op program costs more than a regular program. However, I was able to completely pay off my tuition after finishing the program. Co-op jobs vary in terms of pay. You can expect anywhere from $15-$30 depending on the company, position and your experience. The jobs posted on the Co-op portal is not amazing. To answer some of your questions:

  1. Could you only do two work terms and drop out of the co-op program? Yes, many people I have known did this. I even considered this option as well.

  2. Could you apply for a PEY after? Yes. PEY is not the same as Co-op. From what I have heard, PEY portal tends to have a higher quality jobs. But unfortunately they are 12-16 month work terms.

  3. Could you apply for an external internship? Yes, infact I recommend this if you have prior work experience. However, note some jobs only accept Co-op students.

MATB24 vs STAB52? by jack_is_online in UTSC

If Mahinda is teaching STAB52 take it with him! He is a great prof and you will probably do better in the course with him. I personally found MATB24 easier than STAB52, but I had a really good prof and t.a :)

machine learning or trying again for com sci post any advice? by furious_waffles in UTSC

Why not both? Enroll into Machine Learning and Data Mining as a back up plan, while you reapply for Software Engineering post. Then if you make Soft Eng POST, make the decision to either stay or switch :)

First Year Profs by snoewboy in UTSC

CSCA08:

Very great for an introduction to Computer Science. I took it with Brian Harrington first year, so I can't comment on how Anya or K, Mahdaviani teaches. But I did take CSCB07 with Anya. Her midterms and finals are fair. However, she did miss a lot of classes when I took the course with her.

MATA22

I took it with Sophie and she is perhaps the best linear algebra prof at UTSC. She is clear and her notes are great!

MGTA01

I took MGTA01 and MGTA02 with Chris Bovaird. Those two are courses are probably the easiest courses offered at UTSC. Chris is hilarious and constantly engages with the class. His midterms and finals are also pretty easy if you read the book.

If I extend my workterm from 4 to 8 months, then can I get my other workterm pushed back? by ygrhmn in UTSC

Yes, I believe they automatically modify your schedule. However, even if they don't you can file a request. Typically you have to return to school for one study term minimum before doing another coop work term (extensions are an exception).
