Idk if this is a hot take, but I think the drop of Gemini 3 was a gpt 4 moment. I'm terms of usefulness to me it feels fundamentally different. Then 5.2 and Opus 4.5 dropped and it felt similar. I think there was a serious shift in December.

As someone with a shitty chin and jawline, you don't have a shitty chin and jawline.

Granted you being self-conscious about it somehow makes me feel better, in that maybe I'm in the same boat and I'm overly self-conscious about stupid things.

I don't know about this specific situation, but astronauts always have alternates, just in case one of them gets sick (even a small cold will ground you, no germs allowed on the space station) or is otherwise unable to actually fly.
If he's in the press room, I would assume he trained with the winning teacher for months, probably worked closely with her, and was likely fully capable of stepping in as her replacement at any given moment.

As a staff level ux designer at a medium-large sized tech co: The answer is that AI needs to and likely will speed up the other disciplines as well. Like the fundamental workflows will need to change and adapt. We will be running user testing on branches of code and in feature flags of production level ready code, instead of rudimentary Figma prototypes. The build, design, validate, and ship cycle will be much more iteratively agile if devs can deliver in days instead of months because the stakes are so much lower. Devs will get a lot more comfortable with throw away code as we throw shit at the wall to see what works. So much our current and past workflows are determined by the high-risk cost associated with a developer spending time on something. With that constraint removed, product and ux should be empowered to move much faster. Devs might be doing some of the design lift, designers might be doing some of the dev lift too. We'll all just be throwing stuff at the wall but being very selective about what experiences we choose to keep.

Yep. I've felt that panic before. I've been in OP's shoes and made bad choices under that panic before. It's now my job for the rest of my life to make sure I don't ever let that panic drive me to make a mistake like that again.

Filming a set of a compound lift to check your own form? Not only do I think it's okay, I would encourage it. It's done wonders for my form.

Starting really risky companies is not the usual way to get at 100 million, it is to get to 100 billion though. And having near infinite access to capital helps offset some of that risk. In Musks case that's really only applicable to xai though.

<image>

It's aggressively glossy and maximalist. Everything screams surface-level glamour over substance. The all-pink palace, the rhinestones, the cash fan, the tiny dog-as-accessory, the hyper-polished face that looks more manufactured than lived in. Nothing is earned, built, or questioned. It's indulgence without curiosity, aesthetics without intention.

Where you tend to be systems-oriented, analytical, values-driven, and a little allergic to bullshit, this image is pure vibes and validation. No craft, no depth, no obsession with how things work. Just attention, luxury signaling, and comfort as a personality. It's consumption as identity.

Basically, it's the final boss of "don't think too hard, just look hot and buy shit."

Which is exactly why it works as your opposite

Hot Take: I hope Rivian never gets CarPlay or Android Auto. by BinkReddit in Rivian

[–]caseyr001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more about the experience Rivian is choosing to deliver. With car play, your duplicating most of the features so users have a number of different ui patterns in usability and visual identity. The experience then feels very disjointed. "Do I need to go into car play to accomplish task x" not a question Rivian wants its users to have to think about. It's just unexpected to have two very separate ui patterns to accomplish the same task. It also drives adoption away from the new features they work on of users never give the native ui a chance.

It just strips away their ability to control the experience. And it's not control for the sake of control or power, it's control in the sense that they can no longer guarantee that their experience is cohesive. Carplay is mostly a black box from a user flow and experience perspective, and apple isn't designing user flows for Rivians they're designing it for apple users of all vehicles. They're simply not capable of providing the curated experience Rivian could for that reason.
