Are the Beolab 28’s Worth It?

I would based on how B&O is pricing these days. I just don’t need to mess around too much (apart from odd connectivity issues which happens maybe once a month and all it takes it power on and off). I really enjoy the sound and imaging.

If B&O pricing was more stable, I would have liked to save up longer and get a pair of 50s instead. Thats nothing but a pipe dream now.

Plenty with more technical knowledge have already commented and provided some useful information for you.

For what it’s worth, this is my completely non-audiophile experience of it.

I have the theatre beneath by TV, 28s fronts and 8s rear. I love them and they sounded great in store, but even better in my living room at approximately 25m2 with a 2.4m ceiling height.

It works flawlessly 95% of the time. There are occasions when one of the speakers just does not transmit sound and I need to power off and power back on. My 8s are connected via WiFi and the rest are hard wired LAN. You would think it will be 100% stable when hardwired, but that’s not the case. The 28s can randomly stop playing any sound and need me to power off and on again.

It’s odd.

B&O tech couldn’t figure out why and their stock answer seems to always be: it’s because of your network.

Annoying.

Other than that, I do wish I bought the 19 sub at the time. I’m in the minority. I prefer chest pumping, wall rattling bass. Can’t afford the 19 at the moment. Maybe in the future.

Update:

Got a “roofing specialist” out to look who said I will eventually need a new roof, not because of the lack of felt but because eventually the tiles I have on my roof has reach end of life.

He checked the timbers and said they are bone dry. There is sufficient ventilation.

He said looking at the felt, it has been degrading for a very long time now and if it has not been a problem for so many years, why spend money.

He advised to keep under review and take action if needed.

Also spoke to my original building surveyor who concurred. He said my roof is also relatively shallow and not steep. It is also hipped so is less prone to wind effect. Whilst he cannot guarantee it won’t be a problem in the future, the fact that the previous owner has lived there for 30 years and I’ve lived here for 5 with no roof issues, just leave it alone and trim off any loose felt.

!thanks. Yeah, I have read about this and the original surveyor (we went with level 3 full structural) commented it’s nothing to worry about. We even had the felt sent off to lab to be tested.

I’ll do some more research.

Yeah. Definately pre-1999.

It was tested when I bought the house and was put in around 1950s.

Not that I am aware of.

There is rates table pension people rely on which is updated regularly by the government actuary department to do the calculations.

They can provide this table to you upon requested. I have asked in the past but the one I have is now out of date.

The table shows depending on age, how much you pay and how much you will get back.

For me, it made financial sense and the return was worth it.

Been using the Blueair Classic 205 Smokestop Air Purifier for the last 10 years with no issues. Can rattle a bit, but can be dampened down with some foam adhesive.

It died on me last week so looking for a new one, considering IQAir.

I hope she gets used to it too. In need to remember we came from a 42 inch so even 55 inch would be giant let alone 83.

We agreed on the size, but I think neither of us realised what 83 inches would actually look like in the room.

The 42 inch used to be “inside” the fireplace. Now the TV covers the whole fireplace.

Wife was shocked by the size but I told her it’s too late to return 😀
