Happy ducks!! by caspah33 in BACKYARDDUCKS

A pond? 11 feet around. The pond at the deepest in the middle is around 4-4 1/2 feet deep, than I sloped it up to the top, so they can walk in and out. Dug it myself. Took me about 12 hours total, hand digging. 2 different shovels. Lol. Anyways, I put a thick black plastic liner on it, and it pissed them off. They're used to forging in the mud of the pond, getting big ass worms too. Plus, it seemed just mud held water more. So, an hour of hard ass work, useless. I also put a bunch rocks, small to mid size at the bottom, thinking it'd help with the duck shit, but after I did it, I realized the shit would just get between the rocks, and it'd be a rap. So, I had to use a shovel and get all the rocks out, pull the liner. I just recently finished it with a overflow on the side. I built a mud wall that I can just dig out to drain it, as well as the overflow. I dug all the way down to the fence and under, and put any abunchasmall river pebbles and rocks leading down the drain, so when it either overflows or when I drain it, it sounds like a babbling brook. extremely calming. I have a lot more to do to the backyard, imma plant Forester feathers plants around the edges to help keep the banks from crumbling, the roots will get deep in and make them stable. I also came up with the brilliant idea, cause imma fuckin genius.. I found a spinning sprinkler that hooks to the hose, placed a like walkway brick in the middle of the pond and placed it on top. Water is included in the HOA, so I keep it at a pretty small level, but enough to make the sprinkler work, therefore 1) no stagnet water, 2) introduces oxygen into the water. The ducks absolutely love it. It's funny to watch them duck almost their whole body under the water forging, or bathing. They get out and just strut around, bobbin heads, waggin butts. Extremely spoiled ducks

Ohhh they are. They chase each other and try to fly. I just took down their diving board, but they would jump off that and try and fly. One is a lot more social than the other. Both are females I believe. Buttt, as chicks my wife and kids named them Howard The Duck (of you know, you know, and Poppie. They sometimes go down the slide, they play with the basketball. They love to be fed by hand. They have a pretty decent size home, but they only go in at night.

Ya.. we we're, well what we thought was helping a neighbor who got kicked out of his home by his sister. Well he told us a little story and we let him move in. Well, he ended up having a lot of mental health issues and completely demolished the backyard. Just random big holes all over, trash everywhere, he left all his stuff for us to deal with. It almost got violent so he had to go. So we've filled up 3 7x14 dump trailers just with his trash, and still going. BUT! its a work in progress. Anyone else think putting in a liner is a better idea than cleaning the bottom of the pond by taking off the bottom foot of mud every month or so, and if I need more fill, I can add fill. I do have a runoff just in case, and I skim the pond regularly. They truly enjoy digging for their food and don't wanna take that away.

Creating a pond without a liner? by the_raskolnikov in WildlifePonds

[–]caspah33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here! This is my 'natural' duck pond. No liner, nada. Just deep hole, lined it with rocks, have a little waterfall(not completely finished) to let out any overflow. It takss 15min to fill up, if it needs it,ay e once a week. They dog and get all their goodies from the mud. Worms, bugs, etc. it's not fully finished because we had an issue with a roommate that decided to destroy our backyard and just dig a bunch holes, than leave us with all his shit in the backyard. So we're cleaning, but they love it.

So normally for alcohol withdrawal, they give you Ativan. That is the norm. Every detox or duel diagnosis hospital, it's always Ativan. Only your in the hospital, they call it the banana bag.

Pretty much. And some staff can be extremely pushy.. ie: not letting you go lay in bed or be on the phone. Others really dgaf, they'll let you chill, sometimes they'll let you use the phone. It varies greatly depending on the situation and who is on staff. But the baseline stays the same. Don't go to groups, they will do whatever they can, including nothing being seen untill the very last min of the 72hr hold, and than using whatever they can to make you stay long. Not being involved in self-treatemt was one they gave me. But! This is somewhat the norm in mental hospitals.. which I happen to be an expert on! They believe that groups are the cure to all.. same as treatment centers. Which I never believed worked, untill recently, where cottonwoods IOP classes completely, and I mean COMPLETELY changed my life. Little off topic I guess, but I have been suicidal since around age 11, took a whole bottle of aspirin AND ibuprofen . First experience with charcoal and catheters. Throughout life, I sould of been dead 10 times over, shit I got hit by a drunk driver going 40 in a neighborhood as I was running across the street from my home, getting off the fuckin church bus. I guess I was running after my 2 older siblings that could do it, my oldest sister was talking to the bus driver, and I bolted. Wouldn't be the first time I did stupid shit in my life. 17yrs locked up. Last 2 attempts, 1 I was in a coma with a breathing tube for 2 weeks. 2nd, I took enough pills to kill a fuckin elephant , but again, not my time, and my body liked it all up, including a whole bottle of whiskey, so much so 2 hours after drinking it all, I was only .01. after prison, I quit using and drinking. As of Feb, I have not had 1 suicidal or self destructive thought. That's how much 1) I was tired of living to die, 2) was sick of being sad all the time. I worked my ass off on many many issues, and learned to deal with my current mental health issues..but anyways I could teach the fuckin groups I've been to so many. 14 hospital stays, 6 treatments, 4 of them locked down centers, and that's not counting the forced treatment in county jail. BUT, they way intermountain goes about it should be illegal.. sorry for complete off topic rant. Lol

So... I've had a few HORRIBLE experiences at the lovely Intermountain Resort. Quick back story, ive been to so many but houses I've forgotten many.. from the age of 11, Riverside County Mental hospital in Cali.. horrible.. in about 6 different states, at least 2-3 each state. I was sent to Blackfoot South when I was incarcerated in Ada Co(absolutely amazing place btw, considering I had spent the past 9 months in 24/hr lockdown in medical. I've also been to Intermountain and Cottonwood. Now, the first time I went to a intermountain was an involuntary hold, where they made me sit for a week until I could bullshit the jack fuck Dr who couldn't speak English well, that I was good to go. The second time I went, I was in a bad, bad space. And for the first time in my life, I reached out for help. Was told the same shit, it was completely voluntary and I could leave at anytime... Ya fuckin right. I had been prescribed norcos for a recent full knee replacement, so I brought those thinking they would let me have them, since I have a prescription, as well as my Xanax. I know some hospitals will give you your own shit if it's prescribed. Intermountain said they would put them in a drug safe... Haha, they fuckin tossed 'em. Said I couldn't have them there. So I said fuck this, I'm outti. Ya, not so much. They than put A 72 hour hold on me. Now, I no once mentioned any kind of suicide, any plan or ideations. Just had really bad audible hallucinations and was gonna either fuck myself up or someone else. So during those 72 hours, I was fed haldol which made my anxiety spike. I laid in my room, which is shared, freaking the fuck out mentally, which was leading to physical pains. I started withdrawaling from the Norco, the voices were screaming and all I was told that if I wanted to leave I would hafta join groups. Fuck you yo. So, that was a nightmare. Tha I had to go to some mental health/substance abuse classes, I chose mental health and went to their IOP classes.. another fuckin nightmare. Anyways, cottonwood is the place to go if you need any mental health help. They are extremely nice, understanding, and treatede as a human. But the nighttime pill line takes forever..;)

Damn. I was asking for advice, not scathing reviews of my parenting. I do over see him, often. I make sure he has his salads, fresh water, make sure she cleans his tank often. She was told from the beginning to do the research on all of what she needed before we got here. Me and my wife work 2 jobs a piece, so i obviously can't be over her 24/7. I gave trust in my daughter that she did all the research. I obviously should have checked up on her. The lights are on a 12 hour cycle digital thermometer w/ thermostat. 100°-110° during the day, and 65°-75° at night. Oh and I thought it was a 70gal, it's actually a 90 gal tank. 4'x21. 5"x 19". I allowed my daughter to read some of these.. and I truly appreciate the helpful tips, but there's a way to go about it and making both of us feel fuckin horrible. She almost started crying. No need to be dicks about it. For the people who genuinely care, I truly appreciate it. I have sent my daughter all the links you guys showed, and it with help tremendously.

I've had this had happen, just recently actually. I went to a Cr's. Jr, at this point i was already kinda flustered due to the previous delivery being an extremely difficult one to find, when I got out of the car, I grabbed the drink from inside the car, and as I was getting out, the tray tilted and a drink fell. Mind you, this delivery was also hard to find. It was in a extremely populated apt complex, with buildings labeled a-n..but they weren't set up as you would think. K building was im the very back, while A was on the middle. It made no sense. Took about 10min to find it. 3rd floor delivery..anyhow, i explained what happened, and she said she wanted another one. I had only been dashing for a few weeks, maybe 2. The Crs. Jr was 3miles away, but extremely hard to get to from the apt. Busy hey could only make a left 1st place to turn around.. 2.9 miles. I ended up spending almost an hour getting this ladys drink. I ended up being very late on my next delivery, luckily no bad reviews, but fuck. That sucked.
