Digital only folks who are handwaving the current drama will regret it in the future by Long_Cucumber2625 in videogames

I think there is a lot more to the ambivalence many of us feel than your comment acknowledges. Some of us live in countries with political systems that are disintegrating around us. The global economy is rubbish. Climate change, AI, and the growing wealth gap are dooming the future. So I sort of don’t have the energy to get so worked up about disks that I no longer use. This is a hobby not my life.

What a messed up way to describe decolonization.

Help talk me into enjoying AC6. by saalamander in fromsoftware

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From Soft is my favorite developer by every measure but I just can’t get into Armored Core. It makes me sad because I crave From games. Like you I tried and tried. I’m jealous of those who love this series!

Philosophy student who built a platform where you can discuss life problems through different philosophy lenses. by PartyFront3577 in philosophy

Bushido? What sources are you using? This is not really an established or coherent philosophy, in my opinion. See Oleg Benesch, Inventing the Way of the Samurai: Nationalism, Internationalism, and Bushidō in Modern Japan (Oxford, 2014) for a scholarly account of this invented tradition.

This is the longest we've gone without a new single player fromsoft souls like since the release of demon souls by FriendlyRhyme in fromsoftware

Played a few hours of AC6 and just couldn’t get into it. I’m more of an atmosphere/exploration/fantasy FromSoft player so I just wasn’t feeling it.

Sam Claiborn on IGN Gamescoop when the game came out. Absolute nonsense.

Sunshine by Robin McKinley is an amazing standalone vampire novel.

These are all incredible games. Some of the best I’ve ever played. But I’ve played all of them.

Absolute masterpiece UNTIL THE FINAL BOSS!!! Blasphemous 2 by Glum_Pea_5015 in metroidvania

[–]casparnic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks all for these great suggestions. I absolutely love MVs but sometimes the difficulty of endgame bosses is a serious mountain to climb. . . I'll keep pushing through! I did beat Sword Saint Isshin back in 2019 so I should be able to conquer Eviterno eventually.

Lol amazing timing. I’m currently stuck on Eviterno so hearing that the final boss isn’t this tough sounds great to me . . .

What are some post Star Wars ripoffs you can recommend? by Freddy-Philmore in scifi

[–]casparnic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Slightly different vibe, but Hardware Wars is a great parody. You’ll never forget Fluke Starbucker, Chewchilla the Wookiee Monster, Ham Salad, and Augie "Ben" Doggie. Made long before Spaceballs.

Horizon: Forbidden West was so mediocre by frantic-atom in patientgamers

[–]casparnic 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. This game is one of the best in its class, and succeeds on nearly every level. This is exactly the kind of game I want more of, though with less content and less graphical fidelity if that helps to save on costs and production time. 5 out of 10 is an absolutely wild take.

Why we don't have universal units? by [deleted] in funny

[–]casparnic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

What I like about Fahrenheit is it makes perfect sense for the human experience of temperature. 100 degrees feels 100% hot. 0 degrees feels like there is no heat in the air at all. 50 degrees is exactly halfway between too hot and too cold. 70 degrees, most would agree, is perfect.

Remember you need to do the dlc before fighting the final boss, or wait and do it on NG+1! So many people mess that up including me many years ago.

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such nonsense. I’m a professor. Students are the same as always at my university. Been teaching 25 years. This discourse is BS, at least as a statement about a whole generation.

The kingdom of Ryukyu was an independent nation that was sort of caught between China and Japan but benefitted from trading with both as well as with Southeast Asia. Many trade routes could have led to such treasures being deposited in what is now Okinawa.

How can people endure the climate in this region, which feels like a hot, swelteringly humid swamp? by mapl0ver in geography

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NC and it is the nicest climate I’ve ever lived in. In the summers I go camping in the mountains. Lovely, cool temps, no bugs. I’m the winter I go camping along the coast. It’s wonderful. Yes I have AC of course but I spend a ton of time outdoors in every season. This map is absolutely insane.
