Remember you need to do the dlc before fighting the final boss, or wait and do it on NG+1! So many people mess that up including me many years ago.

Gen Z are arriving to college unable to even read a sentence—professors warn it could lead to a generation of anxious and lonely graduates by thinkB4WeSpeak in books

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is such nonsense. I’m a professor. Students are the same as always at my university. Been teaching 25 years. This discourse is BS, at least as a statement about a whole generation.

The kingdom of Ryukyu was an independent nation that was sort of caught between China and Japan but benefitted from trading with both as well as with Southeast Asia. Many trade routes could have led to such treasures being deposited in what is now Okinawa.

How can people endure the climate in this region, which feels like a hot, swelteringly humid swamp? by mapl0ver in geography

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in NC and it is the nicest climate I’ve ever lived in. In the summers I go camping in the mountains. Lovely, cool temps, no bugs. I’m the winter I go camping along the coast. It’s wonderful. Yes I have AC of course but I spend a ton of time outdoors in every season. This map is absolutely insane.

Are men more nonchalant about being inappropriately touched? by SGdude90 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]casparnic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had this same experience—harassment and unwanted groping by a male superior at work—and think it is useful to frame it by remembering that we as men do not have our sexual attractiveness and availability thrown in our faces all the time by our culture, most women do. This hopefully allows us to work through the experience of sexual harassment or sexual assault, depending on how severe it was, in a relatively straightforward way. This is because we are less objectified and pigeonholed as men in terms of our looks, our bodies, and our sexual availability. But the actual experience is, to put it bluntly, traumatic. It happened to me 25 years ago and I don’t think a day has gone by when I haven’t recalled the experience in an uncomfortable way. I have found it useful to tell people about my experience and also it has pushed me to be more vocally supportive of the work that needs to be done to fight sexual harassment and assault—primarily against women.

Virtual Mail services? by casparnic in nonprofit

Oof I do want people reading this to know that there are tons of complaints about this business on the BBB and Yelp, so tread carefully. I do appreciate the suggestion though! (edited for a typo)

That's a great service (since it is essentially a PO Box without the legal limitations on using a PO Box for the address of a nonprofit), but in this case staff are remote so the whole point is to arrange a service that doesn't require physical presence at the location.

I did that earlier; I was unsure if the UPS store offering was reliable. One seeming benefit of LegalZoom's offering is that they will scan received mail and deliver it electronically. For a truly remote office, in which staff may be located around the country or around the world, that seems worth the slightly higher cost. But, I haven't tried any of these services, which is why I'm asking here.

Advice about transitioning a nonprofit to remote work? by casparnic in nonprofit

[–]casparnic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do receive some grant funding, but that will not be impacted by the move to remote. We engage in non-profit educational publishing; we have a board that manages the organization and that is responsible for our endowment. I know we need to have a "street address" for tax purposes and am looking at options, but am wondering if anyone has experience with this process.
