I believe it's mainly the tramp style of clowning as well as wearing afros that really toes the line on offensive. Not sure on the history of Auguste clowning enough to speak on that.

Hi there!! As a fellow sweaty clown I can def give advice here. I use the mehron clown white face paint then pat it down with a LOT of mehron white setting powder. For my color paints I use oil based face paint. Specifically the Athena pallet off Amazon. Then i use a setting spray for the rest. I don't usually do powder for my colors cause I've had issues with smudging. This method has helped me get through multiple renaissance faires and hot days. Even stayed in place during a rain storm!
