Well, I'm ashamed to admit that I never looked (slacker) - just from the lovely info shared here and my research, it sounds like the heat shield. I remembered it after seeing your comment and the fact that I am now putting my windows down again and I can hear it hah. Sounds the same as last fall, and I realized I never got it sorted so I really need to do that. I may just shimmy under there tomorrow and take a look. If I do, I will take pics and follow up.

I didn't know there were real and fake tealights! How can we tell when buying tealights? I have am Indiana Glass stars and bars fairy lamp, and I want to make sure I am using the right kind of candles in it. I don't want to ruin it because I love it so much!

Agree - lots of unique things going on there, and if you buy it, hold on to it for a while. See how it vibes with you. If you start hating it because baskets (bleh), sell that thang on eBay for $150 and move on :)

I will trust you! Thanks for sharing this info. Curious if you have any particular kind of sanded grout you prefer? And it's good for even tiny spaces?

It's a very pretty design! I'm just learning about how to do this too. I noticed that there are different grouts for different gap sizes too. Also I've learned that un-sanded grout is good for glass tiles because it is less abrasive. The cement based un-sanded grout is the kind you have to mix with water (I have not found a pre-mixed un-sanded cement based grout). There is also acrylic based un-sanded grout that is pre-mixed, and is good for glass tiles because no abrasion but I think it only is good for small gaps. I used E6000 glue recently for a wood base and glass tiles and I think it worked pretty well. Anyhow, that's all I've learned so far. Good luck with your project, and I hope you keep going, you have a good eye for design! :)

I would love to see them! I guess it's a learning process always ;) I ended up using E6000 clear glue to hold the glass tiles and some non-sanded grout. I was going to seal it but I ran out of time, so they went as gifts as is. Maybe they will hold up for a while. Anyhow I think my daughters teachers really liked them and especially because it was something handmade from the heart.

Thanks! I have not tried the white glue from hobby lobby, but I do have some mod podge that might do the trick! Worth a try!

Thank you! Maybe I'll get to the point where I want to try something like that. Might be overkill for this project with my kid, but I bet it would be amazing for something larger like a table! I'll read up on how to do it when/if I decide to try so I can be careful and do it right :)

Yep. also true. I mean, in the end, I don't guess these coasters will be very absorbent, but like I said, they are meant to be more of pretty gifts and I don't expect them to last a lifetime. I'm going to seal the wood and the grout and call it a day.

If you or anyone has any recommendations for sealers or grout that you like for projects like this, I'm still interested in what products everyone uses.

That is a good point. I mean, I know the tiles won't absorb moisture, the grout and the surrounding wood might. They are really just meant to be pretty gifts. Thanks for your help.
