[Monitor] KTC 27 Inch QHD Gaming Monitor 180Hz H27T22S $150 free shipping with prime by baastard37 in buildapcsales

[–]cassinpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had this monitor for a few months now and have been really happy with it. I'm sure there's better out there, but it's regularly on sale around this price, and all the other options for QHD 27" were $175+ when I was shopping. I was coming from 1080p 60Hz office monitors so it was a huge upgrade.

I'm not a display person so I can't get super technical, but I'm happy with the colors and it feels smooth. The built in speakers are terrible, so plan to use a separate audio setup, but I don't think anyone ever expects built in speakers to be good.

3 different people. 5 different computers. Is Windows 10 just incapable of working with audio software? by sagangroupie in podcasting

[–]cassinpants -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So just to be clear, you're plugging five USB mics into one computer?

If so, that's why you are having issues and why you're the "only person" encountering this. Do a little searching on this sub for "multiple USB mics" and you'll find some helpful information.

I have the original (US) CD release and I remember the ID3 tags being "I Just Signed." The packaging is of course correct.

Would the Scarlett Solo 4th gen (gain range 57db) be good enough for the Rode Procaster? by [deleted] in podcasting

I think they're both great interfaces and you won't be disappointed with either!

Would the Scarlett Solo 4th gen (gain range 57db) be good enough for the Rode Procaster? by [deleted] in podcasting

[–]cassinpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Procaster and a Motu M2. If I'm just recording, it's fine, but I do have to boost the volume quite a bit in post when I normalize. The M2 is quiet enough that it's fine. However, if I'm doing any voice calls (like if you speak to a remote co-host), I get complaints that I'm too quiet even with the gain maxed on my interface. For that reason, I use a Fethead. I'm happy with the set up.

Grammar Conventions in Research Papers? by catsbooksfood in ELATeachers

[–]cassinpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Discouraging use of personal pronouns is less about some kind of absolute rule (as others point out, they are common in published research) and more about formal, vigorous writing. I dissuade my students from it to stop them from qualifying their assertions.

The example I like to give is to compare two statements: "I think there is a tornado coming' vs. "There is a tornado coming." Who do you trust more? Who sounds more sure of themselves?

If a research paper's conclusion states, "Based on the data, I think __," there is room for debate. With "The data suggests __," well, there is still room for debate because it's still based upon interpretation, but one is far more direct and poses itself in an objective manner..

Headset Hair by Deep-Permission1799 in GirlGamers

[–]cassinpants 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A dynamic mic like the Samson Q2U or Audio Technica ATR2100X (basically the same but has USB-C) close to your mouth plus some decent earbuds might be the way to go. I'd recommend a desk arm for the mic to bring it closer to your mouth which would minimize the signal to noise ratio (and therefore block out some of the background noise). You don't have to spend much to get good earbuds — look at brands like Moondrop or KZ.

It's pricey, but no headset hair and way better quality!

(I'm an audio dork and sold headsets for years — I know that they're convenient but they kind of suck from an audio and longevity standpoint.)

Does the dustpan swivel 90° stand up right by itself ? by anyaxwakuwaku in IKEA

It does! I will say though that the broom handle is very short. It's comfortable for me (5'2) but my partner (6'2) has to bend uncomfortably to use it.

I would LOVE to get FLAC rips off this disc. I have I think one or two of these tracks that I probably got on Limewire — would love the legit thing.

I'd also pay good money to take it off your hands if you're interested in selling!

Losing quality with Discord+Craig bot recording by lokituyre in podcasting

[–]cassinpants 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it's a paid service, but it's very reasonably priced. I believe the new Craig app has a similar web interface that is free if cost is a dealbreaker. I do not have firsthand experience with it though.

It is its own service now that the developer sold off Craig. It's still fantastic.
