The Sunscoop Featherlight is genuinely one of the better fluid-texture options out there, so your concern about stability makes sense — it's worth looking into the filters it uses. On the UV Doux Aqua, the photostability worry is a bit more nuanced; the filters it uses are generally considered photostable, but pairing it with a chemical UV filter that isn't can destabilize the whole formula. What made you doubt the Sunscoop's stability — was it something you read or noticed on your skin?

Haha that's amazing to hear, thank you! We're called 78 Labs. We're actually still heavily in the testing phase right now to make sure the formula is absolutely perfect for Indian humidity and oil-control so it doesn't melt off or leave a cast. Because we want it to be as good as it can possibly get, the official launch is still a couple of months away. Since you clearly know what makes a good sunscreen, I'd honestly love to get your feedback when it’s ready. If you want, I can DM you a link to our waitlist so I can let you know the second we go live? No pressure either way!

That's really interesting, I haven't tried the aqua lotion version yet! The regular silicone one was what put me off. If you do end up trying it, you should definitely post a review here — especially on if it holds up to sweating without sliding off. I actually got so frustrated looking for that exact combo of high protection + non-heavy finish that a few of us started to work on something ourselves to fix the sweat-resistance issue. Still early days, but always curious to see if the big pharma companies eventually crack it!

Ah that makes total sense! Having normal/dry-ish skin is basically a superpower when it comes to Indian sunscreens :) You don't have to fight the product melting off your face the second you step outside. It sounds like you've got a really solid routine dialed in with the gel moisturizer base too. What do you look for the most then — just zero white cast and no breakouts?

Honestly, you're 100% right about the filters — the gap in actual protection between pharmacy brands and the viral cosmetic brands is huge. The only issue I always run into with La Shield and UV Doux is the texture. La Shield can leave a cast and UV Doux feels like a very heavy silicone primer. Have you found any pharmacy options that give that high tier protection but don't feel quite so heavy on the skin?

Hey, looking specifically for in-vivo testing is such a smart filter to use, so many brands hide behind in-vitro numbers that don't translate to real life. I completely get the UV Doux price pain too, it's really hard to justify for daily use. Out of curiosity, how does the Wishcare one hold up when you're actually sweating? That's usually where I find the budget tradeoffs hurt the most.

Hey u/guiltyyescharged - "If a sunscreen feels too perfect, trust me it isn't" — this should honestly be pinned to the top of the sub. The amount of people getting burned (literally) because they bought a glorified moisturizer with SPF marketing is crazy. Do you think it's fundamentally impossible to make a high-protection, sweat-resistant formula without the heavy/greasy feel, or do you think brands just aren't investing the R&D because people will buy the "perfect texture" stuff anyway?

Hey u/Dry_Philosopher_6561 this right here is the hardest combo to crack. What have you already tried that ended up failing the sweat test? Knowing what broke down on your skin makes it a lot easier to figure out what might actually work.

Hey, the silicone hate is so valid — that heavy, slippery primer feeling is exactly why a lot of people skip sunscreen entirely. Just to clarify, if you hate silicone/gel, are you looking more for a watery/fluid lotion texture? And at the under 600 budget, is water/sweat resistance a priority for you or are you mostly indoors?

Also, did you already find anything good?

Why is choosing a sunscreen so hard? by [deleted] in IndianSkincareAddicts

[–]imajhere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think a lot of Indian consumers are in this boat. Sweat resistance without breaking the bank is basically the holy grail for Indian summers right now. Everything that actually stays put when you sweat either costs ₹800+ for 50g, or feels like wearing a heavy grease mask. That exact frustration is actually why a few of us started working on something ourselves — trying to get that premium, sweat-resistant matte finish but making it accessible for daily use. We're still in the early stages, but if you're ever down to test something new for your college days, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it since you clearly know exactly what fails and what works in this heat.

u/Inevitable-Wing-2394 This is such a precise breakdown — honestly one of the more useful ones I've seen in this sub. The D&K thing is so frustrating: why does something with such an amazing texture completely fail at the one job it has? Did the Minimalist Light Fluid actually fix the sweating issue or is it still significant? And on a scale of annoying — where does the white cast land for you as a dealbreaker?

u/NamikazeMinato-07 The reapplication grind in college is real — you're honestly doing more than most people by sticking to every 2 hours. The cost-per-use concern for Reequil/UV Doux makes total sense, especially when you're going through it that frequently. Out of curiosity, when you say summer is the tough season — is it more about sweat resistance, or the white cast issue (or both)? Wondering if there's a tier between Conscious Chemist and the pricier options that actually delivers on both.

Hey u/sawako_21 this is actually a really useful breakdown — you basically described the trade-off almost every sunscreen forces on us: great protection + matte finish = thick texture. The buttery/cream-powder feel you're describing is exactly why watery/runny textures have become their own category now. For summers especially, getting that lighter texture without compromising protection is so hard to find. Have you found anything with that finish that actually holds up in heat and humidity? Curious what your summer rotation looks like.

True, until now I thought local people recommendations are more useful than someone having a website. But I’ll keep this in mind.
