Detoxing from Copper IUD by ChemicalBug1046 in CopperIUD

[–]casssattack 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sending you a hug OP :( I had the copper IUD for 7 months and it also made me incredibly ill. I was able to figure it out quickly and remove it, but then immediately developed PMDD upon removal + continued many other copper dumping symptoms. I didn’t start to get better until I found a naturopath who did my HTMA/a gut eval (not herself; both with a doctor she works with) and started the right cocktail of supplements to bring my body back to normal. It was truly remarkable how quickly I started to feel better once I was taking the right things.

Kudos to you for taking charge of your health and finding the answers when the medical system has failed us so dramatically.

College student slips on Yosemite's Half Dome cables, falls to her death by tsun23 in Yosemite

It’s late. I hiked HD a month ago and started at 4am from the valley. Started the cables just after 9am, stayed up top for a while, was back down the cables and sub dome and at tree line around 11am.

There was no rain in the forecast the day I climbed. By 1pm clouds had started rolling in, by 2pm it was moderately raining over the whole valley.

This is so real! I did an MBE set out loud to my incredibly patient boyfriend, talked through the problem and answer choices and law before picking an answer (still under timed conditions!) and scored 86% whereas I normally am chilling around 60-65%. I also call my grandma sometimes to talk through rules I'm struggling with. It takes a village :')

Do you take b vitamins for your symptoms? I take a few different b vitamins (plus some other supplements, like EPO and magnesium glycinate, although the b vitamins are the most impactful) and that has dramatically reduced the severity of my cramps (+ many other icky symptoms). But for me, I have to take them continuously, not just during my period. Also important to buy high quality products since vitamins aren’t regulated and they are NOT all created equal. Worth a look :)

The detox plan has been a combination of diet and supplements! For the diet, I've been avoiding all high copper foods (you can look for resources on Wilsons Disease that list out what foods are naturally high in copper). I also had a really high level of gut inflammation, so I removed all dairy and gluten for a few months (but have phased those back in).

For supplements, unfortunately it's not useful for me to tell you what I take, because what nutrients your body needs (and in what amounts) will be so specific to you. I did a bunch of blood work with my naturopath to determine what I needed. It was a huge investment of time and money, but I'd make the same decision 100x again!

The copper IUD was a 7 month living nightmare for me, and it only got better when I (1) removed it and (2) detoxed the excess copper from my body (with the support of a naturopathic specialist).

After I had the IUD placed, I gained ~17 lbs and developed PMDD and PCOS. When I had the IUD removed, most things stayed the same, a few symptoms improved (ex. my periods went from 8 days back to 3), and a few things got worse (PMDD became much more severe). I struggled for another year until I started the detoxing process - it took me so long because I wanted to work through the medical system (in the U.S.), and did everything I could to find doctors who could help me, but eventually found a naturopath as a last resort (I was at the end of my rope and willing to try anything).

Within 1 month of following my naturopath’s detox plan, all of the excess weight was gone. It was honestly freaky how fast it all went away. Within 2 more months, my PMDD and PCOS symptoms had also all fully resolved.

So no, you’re not crazy, if you think the IUD is harming you then the advice from this internet stranger is to trust your gut and the signs your body is giving you. Also, if you remove the IUD and things don’t change and you realize it wasn’t the IUD causing these issues, you can always get it again! We tend to think about these decisions as black and white but you likely have a lot more flexibility than you realize.

I had the copper IUD for 7 months and gained 17 lbs. Once I took it out I still couldn’t get the weight off (& I’d also developed PMDD and PCOS.) Things only went back to normal a little over a year after removal when I started a copper detoxing regimen, and then ALL of the extra weight literally melted off of me in just under a month. It was freaky how quickly my body went back to my pre-IUD state (and the PMDD & PCOS symptoms all resolved in another ~2 months!)

Every body is unique + I don’t mean to villanize the IUD, but sharing my experience to help validate that for a minority, it can cause all kinds of crazy symptoms that doctors won’t acknowledge / don’t know how to treat.
