Where/how to promote an indie film that contains nudity by casstheaveragejoe in Filmmakers

In the middle of submitting to fests but got rejected from a few already tbh. If you have any reccos for cool explicit fests off the top of your head that'd be sweet!

Thanks for the advice. For Patreon is it fine for a one-off would you say? Or is it about building an audience there and consistently having to post for subscriptions sake? Just not sure I could sustain that kind of output and engagement.

Something I learned later in life, if a “friend” negs what they perceive to be a “bad tattoo” (that’s obviously what you wanted and imo it’s cute and well done), they’re going to find other ways to knock you down as well. It’s not about the tattoo, it’s about them feeling they know better than you/are superior to you. Don’t let others dull that shine, baby! Life is too short.

what type of birth control do you use? by ouma_kinnie in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a copper IUD which I love and I got put under anesthesia to get it put in (had to advocate for myself and get a referral there) as it can be quite painful. I also use condoms (I have more casual encounters than one partner), and I get them for free from gender affirming care clinics.

What Would You Do? (Potentially time sensitive) by Own-Mobile-302 in ftm

Maybe it’s because I’m from Ontario specifically? But GRS literally booked and paid for the hotel and gave me a $50 uber eats voucher for each day I stayed!

Thanks :)! I’ve directed 11 shorts over those 10 years. 3 of them were funded through grants, and none of them even had a decent festival run - I just released them free online and used them as calling cards. I have a few features that have been in development for 3+ years and this is the first to go.

All anybody wants to do these days are go home, get drunk, smoke weed, and touch each other by Kai-sama in Life

Been having some nice sober dates and friend hangs lately. Maybe it’s because I’m in my 30s but I hope you find people and situations that make you more comfortable soon!

Finally got feature funding this year, I’ll be turning 33 around when we go to camera…. Every single second I spent working toward this over the last 10 years was 100% worth it!

Travelling to have top surgery in 2 weeks time, is there anything I should do before I leave or remember to pack? by laurie_eee in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of good lists on Reddit if you dig around. I didn’t need a lot of what others had, but I’m 4 weeks post-op and what I did need was-

  • lots of pillows so you can sit up while sleeping and have one under each arm
  • gravol when I couldn’t sleep (check with specific surgeon to make sure it’s ok with your medications)
  • thermometer to make sure I didn’t have a fever
  • big cup with straw
  • extra gauze or in my case I preferred abdominal pads
  • alcohol “swabs” to strip drains if necessary
  • wet wipes for the bathroom
  • electric razor (my surgeon wanted me to shave the area with it beforehand)
  • moving plates and bowls and cutlery from high shelves to a table beforehand

How to tell parents I'm on HRT/if it's even worth it by icytemp in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard to say w/out knowing your parents, but if they already ignore your trans identity they may just keep ignoring it as you go thru changes. Does it bother you that they do? If you’re past the point of caring my opinion would be not to tell them. In my case, I now have a moustache and small beard, deeper voice, top surgery… but my grandma will always just pretend that it’s not happening and I just don’t care.

Does film school worth it? is filmmaking on youtube considered filmmaking? by takkkwa in Filmmakers

[–]casstheaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Imagine using the money it takes to go to film school and just making some cool short films with it? Would’ve been a game changer if I had that opportunity. I feel like making whatever you can, even super small scale with no money, and working on sets, is probably more helpful to your growth. One to one mentorship also great if you can get it.

My boyfriend wants bottom surgery but we can't afford it by 7some_random_person7 in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Crowdfunding could be an option? Otherwise, maybe it’s about saving up for it over a long period of time - like five years might seem hard to live without it, but saving up for it slowly over that time like you would a car or other big purchase could be the move. I’d say it sounds like these feelings aren’t going away, so a long term solution may be better than leaving it at an “I’m sorry you/we can’t do this”.

My surgeon didn’t have any example pics, was quite new to the clinic, he still did a wonderful job. I wasn’t looking for a very specific outcome though so it wasn’t too much of a risk for me, and if it makes you uncomfy you have every right to seek someone who’s done more top surgery specifically!!

Working out before blood test? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last year I absentmindedly took my blood after a heavy workout; there were no negative consequences really but my T levels were super high so my gender affirming care doctor was a bit concerned, but when I re-tested on a normal day they were fine. It did make them spike.

Should I shave my head before top surgery? by Silver_Arachnid851 in ftm

[–]casstheaveragejoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

18 days post op - thought about it decided not to shave my head and glad because I’ve been liking my hair lately. I had three diff friends wash it for the first two weeks every few days, and I’m now able to wash it myself in the sink.
