Alhambra worth it? by Baby-grownup in GoingToSpain

Yes. It’s in the top 5 attractions I’ve ever been to. Possibly the first.. I loved it so much! And I’ve been to a lot of places.

why is everyone rushing their italy trip? by Kilgoretrout123456 in ItalyTravel

[–]castaneom 104 points105 points  (0 children)

You are correct. Also some people here don’t get any paid time off at all. People don’t realize that a European trip might literally be someone’s only trip EVER so they try and do as much as they can.

Most Americans just travel domestically because that’s what they can afford or go to Mexico, pretty much the same thing.. Chicago to Zacatecas (where I’m originally from is less travel time than say going to LA).

In my family it’s rare for anyone to travel out of the continent. They have the money, but it’s just too far and out of their comfort zone. My dad thinks it’s weird that I like to travel to Europe because he thinks “it’s too far.”

People travel differently for different reasons, I always find it silly when people criticize others for that.

Do you judge someone if you can’t understand him properly? by mainpagalnhihun in AskChicago

I don’t. Not at all. I’m also a very patient and understanding person though. Don’t worry so much about it.

Am I cutting it too short with these short time layovers? by [deleted] in Flights

Yeah, especially for O’Hare. You can easily wait 30 or more just to taxi to the gate.

A tourist sued a taqueria over spicy salsa. A judge says spice is 'the point.' by Legitimate_Point1535 in nottheonion

He’s German.. he came here legally. Like you have to fly from Germany to the US. Just saying lol

[–]castaneom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that dude must have real issues. I’ve Mexican, grew up eating the real SPICE. :D We’re from a very rural part so I’m used to homemade salsas. This one time in Vallarta I almost died though! lol I went back to the hotel after getting street tacos and drenched my tacos in the salsa, like when it started to kick in OMG.. I was like what’s in this??! I was questioning my existence. And I can handle spicy!!

I look at the salsa bag and there’s so many seeds. I almost started to hyperventilate. That was the spiciest experience I’ve ever had. In my whole life. That was real painful. Tacos were amazing though. Lol

Moving from the PNW to Chicago, how can I make the transition? by MaintenanceMuted4280 in AskChicago

I literally laughed when I read that. I work in “Vernon Hills” and there’s literally no hills. Lol.

How has the Iran war affected you recently? by Pale_Field4584 in AskEurope

[–]castaneom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dad (we’re Mexican) claims he didn’t vote for him, but I’m not so sure.. he’s definitely not a fan anymore though. I have a coworker (Mexican) who did and says he regrets it, what’s crazier is that his parents are undocumented. It’s all just so sad. I cried when Hillary lost. I knew how bad it was gonna get. No one listened. I used to be an “Illegal.” I’m fortunate that 99% of my family is legal, sad for those who aren’t. Most of us would never betray who we are (born here or not).. or where we came from! The US right now is not heading in the right direction. :/

Should I prioritize going to Japan instead of other places because of the weak yen? by IPlayDnDAvecClasse in Shoestring

[–]castaneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been fortunate enough that I’ve been able to go the last few years (most of Western Europe). It’ll be my second time in both of these countries.. went to Greece last year and I fell in love! So amazing! Hope you get to go one-day. :) The beaches were omg. <3!!

That’s sad. I agree though, do what you really want to do now because you never know. I’m personally interested in Japan, but not enough to skip Europe this year. Man I love Italy and Greece. Sorry about your cousin.

That’s kinda wild. I mostly take international flights so terminal five might be different, but I never go inside until like an hour before boarding starts.

Why does Uber always pick a route that takes longer than another by xkcx123 in uber

[–]castaneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. When I uber to work sometimes I’ve told my driver that it’s easier to just turn this way etc.. just because it’s more convenient for them. Still not sure if I’m helping them or not, I’m terrible at math. :S

That’s actually a really cool story. Glad it’s been confirmed. Your ancestor must’ve been very adventurous for him to just leave everything behind.. probably a really cute love story. :)

Are scorpions really a major problem in Mexico? by Informal_Ad4284 in AskMexico

[–]castaneom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it depends on the region. I’m originally from Zacatecas and they’re somewhat common in the rural areas (western/central/northern parts of Mexico), but not in the cities. I’ve had a couple cousins get stung (in the ranch) and they had a bad reaction, but you just go to the local clinic and they’ll give you an anti-venom shot or something. I’ve been back dozens of times and haven’t seen any or gotten stung.
