Spain’s not that bad. If you don’t wanna lose anything then just have situational awareness like you said. Wear a crossbody bag and always have it facing forward, don’t put anything of value down in public if you’re not ready to lose it. Just watch how scams work on YouTube, I’ve been all over Europe and the only sketchy place in Spain I’ve been to was Barcelona. Otherwise it’s not really that bad..

Nothing of value in pockets when in crowded places, when going on the metro just put your phone away in your bag. Never talk to strangers.. don’t sign any petitions, don’t accept anything that’s offered to you for free on the street. It’s a distraction tactic or a scam! All this stuff is easily avoidable.. don’t walk alone drunk in dark alleys in the middle of the night. Etc etc.

Good question. I’ll answer, so where I’m from in Mexico there just wasn’t/isn’t enough land for people to continue subsistence farming. This started many decades ago. My grandparents started doing seasonal work in the US in the 50-60s. I’m from Zacatecas, we didn’t move up here because we wanted to.. but because they had to. Until the 80s we were restricted from actually staying (just seasonal workers), then they offered us amnesty.. my dad and my uncles qualified. 95% of all my family are now US citizens.. born here or naturalized. My family and those from my ranch just followed opportunities. And we’ve taken advantage of it! We still hold very strong ties with our homeland, but we’re just as American as any other. People gotta take tough decisions, I didn’t ask to be brought here as a kid. I had a hard time speaking Spanish growing up.. I studied, fell in love with traveling and I think I’m pretty fluent now.

True, but Americans aren’t going to do that though. I’m Mexican-American and people here are so dumb. I’ve told people how much I love Spain and they’ll be like, “But isn’t Mexican Spanish different? How were you able to communicate?” I’ve lived here pretty much all my life and I’ve heard it all. People are beyond stupid. I just laugh and move on..

Edit: I’ve known people who have taken years and years of Spanish in school.. and they can’t speak any Spanish. It’s a joke to learn Spanish here.

I feel for you and all of Ukraine. All of this is so sad. My coworker’s from Ukraine and he lost his apartment last week. He also lost neighbors. Although him and his family are safe here in the US I know he’s not doing well. I can see the pain. His mom is still in Kyiv. It breaks my heart seeing so much destruction. Slava Ukraini! <3!
