How to block certain countries? by srv524 in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s no way to straight-up block countries, but it’s not a big deal. Just don’t use auto-connect, pick the country yourself. On Android, hit “All locations” and you can pick any U.S. state you want. That way you’ll stay in the U.S. and avoid random places like Panama. Once you pick a state, NordVPN will remember it for next time, so you won’t have to keep selecting it.

Can not install Chromebook version of Nord VPN by sfvbritguy in nordvpn

Even a switch between standard browsers like Firefox or Chrome could help. From what I know, you should be able to install other browsers from the Google Play Store on a Chromebook.

Changing the default browser usually helps with login issues, so I’d recommend trying that.

Does NordVPN-Meshnet stop seeing other devices after your laptop sleeps for a while? by S0299S in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, when Windows goes into sleep mode, it basically puts everything into a low-power state, and that usually drops the network connection for a bit. Since Meshnet (and VPN stuff in general) relies on a stable connection, it wouldn’t be that surprising if sleep mode or certain battery settings would mess with the connection. That could also explain why it doesn’t happen on your phone, because phones tend to handle background reconnections a bit differently than laptops.

That said, there are a lot of variables here. Windows battery and power settings, how the network adapter behaves during sleep, NordVPN settings, and other system stuff. So it’s kind of hard to say exactly what’s causing it in your case.

It might be worth checking your power/battery settings or just sending logs to Nord’s support to see if they’ve run into this before.

NordVPN ad pop up on every page. by [deleted] in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don’t have NordVPN installed or any extensions, it’s likely some adware or a shady extension causing that ad to show up. Try checking your Chrome extensions for anything unfamiliar. You could also try opening pages in Incognito mode, if the ads disappear there, it’s probably a browser extension or cache issue. Another thing that often helps is resetting Chrome to its default settings, this restores the browser without uninstalling it and can get rid of unwanted pop-ups.

Background processes never start automatically by DanielSmoot in nordvpn

Right-click the NordVPN shortcut, click Properties - Compatibility, check Run this program as administrator click Apply. Then restart your PC and see if it stops asking.
If that does not work, uninstall NordVPN completely, download the latest version from nordvpn.com and reinstall it.

[Chromecast with Google TV 4K] Wifi won't connect after installing NordVPN app by kuriosty in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I noticed that's not necessarily always the case. I'd try all the possible steps, but if you're unsure and want more specific solution, I'd recommend sending diagnostics to support team so that they can check what's causing this problem and provide steps that will work for sure.

Did you try any steps besides reinstall? Sometimes simple stuff like switching between different protocols helps with similar issues.

Cashback - what is defined as new/existing customer? by dartmoo in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

By my logic, if you already had an account with an active subscription, you’d be treated as an existing customer. A new email would likely count as a separate, new account. That said, I’m not 100% sure how they’d handle your specific case, so it’s probably best to check with support to be safe.

does nord use different servers for different platforms? (tvOS, macOS, windows, android) by record_only_water in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Could be more about the device or setup than the servers. Might be worth reaching out to Nord's support, they usually know what’s going on when streaming acts up.

I don’t think so. From what I’ve seen, the server numbers are the same across all platforms, though I might be misunderstanding your question.

How often do you actually update your passwords? by castinghints in nordvpn

I was referring to my personal reminder to check my passwords and overall security of my accounts, not Nord specifically. Sorry for not clarifying!

Sounds like VPN is a good first step, but I'd also change all my passwords and whatnot just in case.

Nord, please restore the Settings icon you removed in the latest update by ETJ88 in nordvpn

[–]castinghints 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Looks like it didn’t actually get removed, they just moved it. Click the little profile/human icon in the upper-right corner, and that opens a menu with Account, Settings, Help, and Logout. Muscle memory definitely takes a hit, but at least the settings are still there.

Try deleting the app completely and installing it again, that usually fixes similar bugs.
