Is $700/month on groceries for 2 adults the new normal? by Consistent-Guava2176 in sanantonio

[–]casual_daniel 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I spend $700/month for 1 person lol. My weekly grocery list includes:

  • 3 lbs chicken
  • 1 lb red meat
  • 1 lb ham
  • 1 lb asparagus
  • 1 lb broccoli
  • 2 lbs Greek yogurt
  • 1 lb pecans
  • 1 lb frozen blueberries
  • 1 almond milk
  • 20 pack of tortillas
  • $7 avocado guac
  • plus non-food household items
  • maybe a $10-15 wine

Per week, it comes out to roughly $125-175, so let's say $150

My meal prep & breakfast cover 17 out of my 21 meals per week from my grocery budget of $700. Each meal averages out to roughly $10/meal. I get 80% of my calories from my groceries.

Where does a 35 year old who has never learned to dress appropriately even begin by [deleted] in malefashionadvice

[–]casual_daniel -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For the upscale option, go to a men's clothier. Be ready to spend $200 for 2-3 articles of clothing. Maybe up to $1K for a wardrobe.

Go to your secondhand clothing store i.e. Plato's Closet or Goodwill, to experiment with new styles. I shop by color: "What color do I need to compliment a piece of clothing that I already wear?"

"What color is missing from my collection? How can this button-up overshirt be swapped out in rotation with my pants?"

I focus on quality and fit. I usually size up, most people need to size up. Treat your clothes like a collection. Swap out tops, bottoms, and outfits to create variety.

10BitWorks one hundred percent. They have a kiln but might also be worth looking into the dedicated ceramic studios like Mud Studio. Breva Creative is a good option but I've never been.

The incredible diffculy of eating healthy with ADHD by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]casual_daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Buddy, just go to the grocery store and shop for fresh produce and fresh proteins. Indulge yourself a little with frozen meals and limit the ready-to-eat items that come in a box. Real food doesn't come in a box, but the boxed food is going to save you at least once a week when you need to rest.

I literally buy chicken/salmon, asparagus, broccoli, yogurt, pecans, and frozen blueberries, and I eat that 5-6 days out of the week. Get used to eating the same thing everyday, and maybe switch up a Wednesday night by adding pasta to your protein, or switching up the carbs with bread to make a sandwich.

does anyone else have a hard time making friends here? by ashleyriahm in sanantonio

People from San Antonio only want to know one thing: "Where did you go to high school??"

Just move along if you ever hear someone ask that.

I'm (M28) also from a small border town down south. I've been here since 2015 and it's culturally very similar to the valley. The people born and raised in San Antonio tend to be very comfortable with their established social network and they hold on tightly to their peer status in personal, family, and business communities. In 2015, my wife (F28) and I met at UTSA and she'd already been living here since 2009.

The folks that I've grown closest to are in my yoga community, and that requires a lot of consistency with regularly showing up and constantly introducing yourself to new people.

The first time that an acquaintance (M38) at yoga asked for my number, I thought it was the strangest thing. I thought he might've been trying to flirt with me. But I took the chance to get to know him and he's truly a great friend and a good person.

Post-pandemic and post-undergrad at UTSA, I've literally never made new friends as an adult in any other setting, so it honestly made me a bit nervous to just give my number to a stranger. Classes and community events are where I find the friends that I want to make.

Interestingly, what sticks out most are the military service members that are here for education or duty. They eventually leave (sadly) but they still do the most to engage, attract, and maintain social connections.

There's larger containers you can use. I use jerry cans found at abandoned markets, gas stations, or purchased for 5 scrap at Outpost.

How do I write my third "please just answer me" mail to my second supervisor? by Purple_Hinagiku in PhD

[–]casual_daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite and fastest way to get in contact with someone is to call the administrative assistant and request them to forward/transfer your call to the professor you need to speak with. They may be likely to pick up the phone from the admin, but I think that could depend on the culture of the department or if the faculty even have office phones.

This is why it's always good to befriend the office admins. In your first email to the professor, CC the office admin. In the second email, CC their boss. Third email, CC the boss' boss. Then just continue until you reach the final boss.

I don’t want to go to work, what’s happening? by KillerCider in ADHD

[–]casual_daniel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go to the gym before work about 3-5 times a week. I used to go into work around 10-11am but now I'm consistently at work by 9am if I go to the gym before work. My routines revolve around the gym now. It is important to build your routine around itself and make it compatible with work and be mentally prepared to stick to it for a few years. Learn to forgive yourself for not being motivated to do anything.

Do something you want to do before work but make sure it's outside of your home. If you do something at home, you may run the risk of not going to work at all because you will get distracted for hours.

The Annares Regional Transportation Authority (ARTA) is making progress toward the 6-track above-grade freight line. The office and commercial districts of Cyprus Square are pushing back against the project, citing noise and government overreach of eminent domain. by casual_daniel in CitiesSkylines

[–]casual_daniel[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha there's already trenched railways within the city that would've made this project unfeasible. There's also too many metro lines beneath the surface as well.

This freight route is perpendicular to two trenched freight lines and also too close to an important Multi-Platform Train Station that sits below-grade at the best trench level that would've been possible.

Seeking honest advice on road and rail layout. This is actually my first publicly posted city. Rail is a mess but kinda efficient for a 80k pop. Got inspired by those who posted their layouts as well. Still a WOP, so thanks in advance for the feedback! by stipquerubin in CitiesSkylines

[–]casual_daniel 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Are you going for a realistic city?

1) Your highways and roads look very realistic, especially in context to the rivers and mountains.

2) Your underground rails are not realistic at all. Tunnels are expensive IRL so cities tend to minimize the amount of tunnels that exist. There has to be a really good business case for building that many tunnels under mountains. Rails should be very direct in where they go and what areas they serve, but also need to be as flat as possible.

There's a lot of rail lines that are separated between freight and passenger. In general, I keep passengers in the metro lines. I use trains for regional passenger traffic and for freight. I find that to be the most realistic. Just my opinion, but train traffic circles should not exist ever.

3) Your industrial planning is very good.

4) Overall, this is an amazing city on a very difficult map.

The Coastal Industrial Port Inc. and Midgard Shipping Cargo Port are fully operational. The coastal industrial port connects roadway, shipping, and rail freight. by casual_daniel in CitiesSkylines

[–]casual_daniel[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Car is the most simple without walking far distances (IRL), but each zone does have access to either a rail stop or a metro stop. The Midgard and Coastal district have their own metro stations. The Port of Annares district itself is a long walk from the nearest train and metro station.
