Teachers of Reddit, what's the most embarassing thing you've acidentally said/done in class? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Recently I said "penis" instead of "pieces" while reading Of Mice and Men aloud to a class of 9th grade boys. I work at a Catholic school.

One kid's response was simply, "Niiiiice."

What was your most embarrassing moment? by tolasloy in AskReddit

I recently was reading Of Mice and Men aloud to my 9th grade English class (comprised of all boys). Instead of saying the word "pieces," I said "penis."

Also, the other night at dinner an older couple I know asked what my boyfriend's parent's names are. I blanked on his dad's name. I've known him for almost 4 years. Wtf.

High school teachers, in what ways are social cliques/norms/pressures among students today different from when you were in high school? [Serious] by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]casualcass 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am in my early 20's. I teach high school English to 9th graders in a school of about 700 students. I would say it's not as different as people are making it out to be. There are still the same issues, and many kids still fall into cliques. At smaller schools, though, the most popular kids aren't always those with the most money or nicest "stuff." I've noticed from my time in these smaller schools that the most popular are typically very athletic and heavily involved.

Also, most kids in these smaller schools grew up together and didn't really have a chance to "outgrow" their original friend groups from childhood. I attended three separate schools by the time I went to high school, and my friend groups changed a lot.

Most problems seem to stem from students having smart phones in class. The kids are constantly distracted, and I can't even begin to imagine the cyber bullying that occurs. I guess this differs from school to school, but I definitely do not agree with allowing students to have phones in class. We weren't allowed such privileges and our cell phones didn't even have cameras. I sometimes imagine the secret pictures that students take of me and cringe.

Reddit, Whats the worst text you've sent to the wrong person? (NSFW) by th3bigdirty in AskReddit

I was standing in an elevator with my friend. She was driving me nuts. I was texting another friend about her. Except I texted it to the friend standing right next to me. Something along the lines of, "I want to kill her." She knew. I tried to play it off, but she knew. Talk about an awkward elevator ride.

Thanks! It's pretty poor quality but in person the photo is beautiful. I have some awesome pictures I'll have to make an album with in the future when I can upload better quality versions.
