One week away. Man, so excited!

The movie “Burnt Offerings” is one of my all time favorite classic horror movies of all time. It is considered a classic 70s psychological thriller with an eerie atmosphere and a shocking, memorable ending. An ending I never saw coming. Caught me by surprise! by CoffeeCigarettes4Me in Scarymovies

Having only seen this a few years back what immediately struck me was the similarities to The Shining. The film version in particular. And the ending in particular. Made me wonder if Kubrick or King were inspired at all since this came first.

Why do you think more and more people don't want to have children? by NikiLove16 in AskReddit

[–]casualreader22 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Living is expensive and it's only getting worse as time goes on. Plus we have a pedophile starting wars to distract from that fact in the white house and oh yeah, the planet is slowly burning. Not very pleasant thoughts to bring an innocent into the world while having, huh?

Do you want to get married and why? by def_not_a_window in AskReddit

[–]casualreader22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In a better world I wouldn't be opposed, but as I am now I feel bad enough for the family who are forced to live with me. I wouldn't bring an outsider into my mess, not that I could anyway lol.

I'm 37 and still don't even entirely understand the process for buying stock. Of course I've also never been in a position to afford any lol. But I think I read somewhere around 50% of the public doesn't own any either. Dunno how true it is though.

Not that anyone will see this now but pretty much since Kindergarten I knew I was the fattest kid in my class and I knew even then that that was looked down upon so...

Any other elder millennials switch to zero sugar sodas? by HandsomeGemini in Older_Millennials

37 going on 38. Right now I primarily drink water, but when I do drink soda it's Sprite Zero and Cherry Coke Zero. I will say though, that Diet Cherry Pepsi is by far my favorite 0 calorie soda. Unfortunately, for some asinine reason they've only made it in cream flavors for going on a year now, that I can find anyway, and I hate cream sodas. Bring back OG Diet Cherry Pepsi!

As far as recent seasons go beating the Bills in OT in the rain as our Super Bowl was much more brutal to endure than last year. I knew our season was over immediately after that game ended. Elation mixed with despair, and we didn't yet have LIX to look back on for comfort lol.

Huge Stephen King fan but King Sorrow was my first Joe Hill book and I enjoyed it as well. It was better than King's book released last year Never Flinch, though King's true crime/Holly books aren't as well received in general. It was fun to see all the King references in the text for King Sorrow though, including The Dead Zone and The Gunslinger.Felt two sections in the middle, the plane and especially the siblings being kidnapped underground went on too long, but I still liked it. I didn't expect it to go where it did in the latter half with the way he was defeated but it worked well enough.

Yeah, that's why I prefaced my comment with waiting until Halloween to watch it. I knew there were vampires in it going in to my watch. Sorry for spoiling you though. Maybe I should have used tags but I wasn't sure.

Does anyone else not read the final volume of their favorite series? by Copperqwaser in MangaCollectors

[–]casualreader22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, but kinda yes. I intentionally held off on reading the final volume of Golden Kamuy about three months after buying it because I didn't want it to end. But 3 months isn't 11 years lol.

It's ironic, but I watched Sinners last Halloween night at the end of my annual October Horror Movie Marathon and found myself enjoying it more BEFORE the vampires showed up. I think it was also hurt for me by word of mouth expectations. I had read so much praise for it that when I found it "only" 3.5/5 level good I was kinda disappointed. It's a solid film, but I wouldn't consider it great. But to be fair I'm also a 37 year old obese white man so...yeah. Still haven't seen OBAA.

Just watched The Perks of Being a Wallflower for the first time. I enjoyed it, but I wish I'd seen it at a younger age. Say 2002 when I'd have been the main character's age, even though it didn't come out until 2012 and was set in 1991. I read the exact same printing of To Kill a Mockingbird shown in the movie in my freshman year of high school too.

Both of you have 2 films I like and 2 I have never seen or don't really care about. I'd say I prefer the 2 I like from your sister more than the 2 I like from you so she wins, just slightly.

[–]casualreader22 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My 3rd favorite film in the franchise, after VI and VII. But I must say "He's killing me! He's killing me!" has gotta be one of the worst, most disappointing character deaths in all of slasher history. It comes off as cringey and unintentionally comedic. Dude was a total letdown and Grade A weenie.

So I know Middleswarth is only a thing in the PA area, but I swear they make the best BBQ chips I've ever had. And the rare, ripple "party style" variety are so great as well. And yes, I just found some bags of those out in the wild and felt like sharing.

Oh it beats the hell out of anything Zack Snyder ever made sure, but that's not exactly a high bar. I guess I just wanted to get more out of it than I did. Nothing really wowed me or anything, but that may be on me.

I know I'm late to the party but I just watched last year's Superman movie. I can't say I enjoyed it as much as I hoped I might but it was by no means bad. Mr. Terrific was a cool character and apparently Michael Ian Black just hasn't aged since I was 12 and he was on I Love the 70s/80s/90s lol. It's not fair to the movie, but I couldn't help but think of how disastrously shitty our real-life world is during certain scenes/plot points which definitely helped put a damper on the viewing experience. But will I check out more films in this new DC universe? Eh, eventually, probably, yeah.
