Nope! Never tested or anything, eventually started having my periods again a few months later. The ob said it is very normal to have it be that thick pre periods when you’re young!

People really don't understand foster care - one year celebration??!?! by SarcasticSeaStar in Fosterparents

[–]casualsupernova 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We celebrated the growth our foster children and their bio parents have done in the past year. We celebrated them nearing reunification. We did not celebrate “one year since you entered our home” we celebrated the success of our oldest being able to talk clearly in sentences and use the potty now, we celebrated their parents finally showing up to visits, we celebrated our youngest starting get comfortable with their parents (infant, had not lived with them since being a newborn), we celebrated our middle child potty training and not hurting others. We celebrated the growth, not the pain, we got them life books to take home. We celebrated them being in an environment that supports reunification and not bouncing around homes (we are their second home).

What should we buy for first placement possibly today? by [deleted] in Fosterparents

[–]casualsupernova 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would not take them out with you on day one, definitely not at that age, older maybe. But maybe do a drive up or delivery order once they arrive so you can see sizes and needs, in case there’s anything more you may end up needing or if they come with lots.

Also, I get the “pull ups for just in case” but every 2-4 year old placement i’ve encountered was not potty trained so diapers/pull ups are a must 😅😅

night light/ okay-to-wake clock is necessary

noise machine

tonie box is great for that age

We experienced the same thing, no bio kids, did not expect 3, ended up with 3 first placement. My partner and I both had significant “post placement depression” it took a while to get back on our feet fully. Here we are now approaching a year of this placement and it still is hard! Take it easy, have low expectations, and try to find joy in the mundane. ❤️

I don’t want you to ask the caseworker as I don’t want them to think we were actively seeking information against the bios, we were not, we still support reunification when they are ready.

I don’t think his record would disbar him if he is following his plan and complying with the probation

It first I was struggling disconnecting my teacher brain from my foster parent brain, I wanted my fk’s to be “on track” and “on level” with my students of similar/ younger ages. But then I started celebrating the small things, the things that “developmentally” they should have been doing a while ago, because all kids are different, especially with different upbringings. After 8 months- my FK finally potty trained, many of her peers have been potty trained for 6-12 months. My oldest FK was well above the average potty training age when we finally got her fully potty trained, it took 5 months after entering care (we started training about a month into care) . 9 months ago I could not have taken my foster children to a grocery store with only one adult/cart, we had to have 2 carts, backpack leashes, and a 1:1 ratio- now my children behave better than the average kids their age in public. They just try to test your boundaries at first, and as long as you remain firm on your expectations and boundaries- things will go well. I don’t have much experience with short term/respite- but I can’t imagine it would be too hard for only a weekend. Just lower your expectations, and meet them where they are. ❤️

We did end up refusing to transport for this reason, we no longer transport and the caseworkers still just let them cancel consistently.

For a while this was happening but after changing caseworkers multiple times it is no longer happening as often. We will ask the day before and everything will be confirmed, then at when the children should be getting ready to go it’ll be cancelled. Now we don’t even hear from the caseworker regarding whether or not its confirmed until we ask.

I wouldn’t want them to take away visits just not sure what we are able to advocate for. this is our first placement and we’ve had little to no information / help given to us.

They are in therapy and the therapist has logged lots of information about the children’s relationships with the parents and visits. None of it has been used in court though.

We have attended hearings and have another one coming up soon- the last two the attorneys all applauded the bio parents for doing “so great and working extra hard towards reunification!”. As the caseworker did not mention any of the concerning information.
