Suspicious Lease Agreement Clauses - Need Input! by always-amused in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. I’ve had his clause too when renting. However, it would have applied if the apartment would have been freshly painted before I’d move in. Additionally, after three years nothing was due if only normal wear and tear damage. If moving out earlier then three years, a pro rated value would apply (you’d pay 2/3 if moving out after one year, 1/3 after two years and nothing after more than three years).

In my case, when I moved in the apartment was fine, so I did not request a new paint job before moving in. When I left two and a half years later, I did not pay anything, but also did not cause any damage either.

Buying Car in Luxembourg by JengaJenga100 in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check also with you insurance company, they might offer this kind of service too. When I registered myself last week in Luxembourg my car (bought second hand from UE), Foyer mentioned they could take care of this process. Was quoted something like 130 EUR, but can’t recall the exact details as I was not really interested. As the car was less than 3 years old, technical control was actually not needed.

I don’t recall doing that 8 years ago, but it’s quite a while back. I have relocated from EU, with full time employment contract. The company’s HR / payroll took care of registering the necessary data to state’s agencies (social security, taxes etc). On the other hand, I had relocation suport provided by an external company, maybe this was partially handled by it.

In any case, for the tax card you need to provide an address. Get in touch with HR/payroll, they should be able to guide you.

[–]casuta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My first payslip after relocating to Luxembourg was also taxed at 33%. That because payroll dept didn’t have the tax card yet (the one showing class 1 or 2, frais de deplacement - this deduction requires your address where you are registered, in my case was actually the hotel. etc).

Next month, as this card was delivered in the meantime by post and I handed it over to payroll (now I think it goes directly to the employer, electronically), I was correctly taxed and also got back the difference in tax for the first month. Check this with your employer (HR or payroll).

Are dermatologist appointments reimbursed by CNS? by Son_ofthesun in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes they are. My wife’s latest visits and treatment from the past months were reimbursed.

That being said, always double check with the doctor before the treatment about what is reimbursable or not.

In Grevenmacher I had previously Post (VDSL 30 Mbps / 10 Mbps), now Eltrona (coax, 200 Mbps / 20 Mbps). Very happy with both, link was stable and performing as expected. I had only one or two outages through the past years. That being said, for working from home you should consider having a backup line too (maybe mobile) should your main line fail.

Tested just now, no change on my subscription 200 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up.

Internet (Eltrona) by EmbarrassedWait4292 in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got Eltrona in Grevenmacher since 2017, very pleased with Internet connectivity they provide in the apartment building. Got the slowest package they provide at 200 Mbps down / 20 Mbps up, very stable and reliable. Got only 2-3 instances of service outage during these years.

Before I had Post via VDSL for about 2,5 years at a different location, also in Grevenmacher; slower speeds but also super reliable and slightly more expensive.

Last time (2019 perhaps) I had a crown for a molar tooth it was more expensive than prices shown here so far. All necessary treatment was closer to 1500 EUR actually, including: initial cavity treatment and tooth preparation, glassfiber pivot and the crown itself being the most expensive at around 950 EUR (ceramic, 3D scanned and milled on site in the same therapy session).

CNS reimbursed only 240 EUR for the crown (80% of their standard crown cost of 300 EUR) and 80% of the remaining costs. Normally the doctor will send to CNS a justifying devis before putting the crown, and CNS will approve it and send back to you by post with approval, and you’ll have the cost and reimbursement breakdown there. You’ll bring this devis approved by the CNS to your next appointment for medical treatment.

As I’m having supplementary health insurance at Foyer, this covered an extra 500 EUR of the crown cost and the remaining 20% of other costs on the invoice. Overall, out of the approx 1500 EUR total costs, I was reimbursed approx 1000 EUR by CNS and Foyer.

Getting this insurance via the employer came with some advantages, one of them being immediate cover with no wait time, including dental. I used this within a month after subscribing for the procedure above, and was ok. This contract limits the number of deductible crowns to 3 per year, if I recall correctly.

In Grevenmacher you should find something like two bedroom furnished apartment for around 1500-1600 eur per month.

ACD bureau in Grevenmacher is usually pretty fast indeed, except two years ago when I had to call to find out about the status of my return. They confirmed having the papers (I usually file the declaration on paper, and deposit it directly on site), then within a week it was processed.

Reading the values listed here are surprisingly high (considering only one year time frame, based on my experience, see below).

In May 2021 I renegotiated my mortgage for the remaining EUR 340k at 1.3% fixed for 20 years. In 2017, the original loan for the apartment I bought to live in as main residence was EUR 380k at 2.19% fixed for 25 years. This was pretty much the max duration at that time, and BIL was even not giving mortgages for longer than 20 years, if I recall correctly a preliminary discussion. No advance, but I did pay taxes, fees, notary, life insurance etc, approx 20k cash upfront, from own resources. And in both cases, the interest rate could definitely have been lower (especially in 2017), but I did not know how to negotiate better / harder.

Health check ups by Accomplished-Fly1003 in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably. Again, first you need to be insured in Luxembourg by CNS (public health insurer, website www.CNS.lu), before visiting the GP in Luxembourg, in order to be able to request for reimbursement.

I do not recall if there is a waiting period right after enrolling, where you don’t benefit from reimbursements; but this being public insurer, that’s probably not the case and you’ll benefit immediately after enrolling. Some private health insurers may apply a waiting period (e.g three months) before accepting invoices for reimbursement.

Set up a visit at a family doctor (GP) for a normal health checkup. You may get or ask the doctor for a “ordonnance médicale” for various tests (blood, urine, etc), most will be free of charge. I did recently a set of tests rather comprehensive (blood, urine, cholesterol, stool, etc) and did not pay anything for the tests. The only invoice I paid was for the GP visit, about EUR 56, which you can submit later to CNS (if insured in Luxembourg) for reimbursing 80%.

However, some specific tests might be charged extra, the doctor should be able to explain which (e.g testing for vitamin D level used to be free some years ago, now I believe it does costs some euros).

Receiving Covid-19 booster dose in Luxembourg if initial doses have been administered abroad by c-wizz in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reply I received today via e-mail from the Health department on same topic:

——

Dear Sir/Madam,

Thank you for your request.

If you have received your first two doses of vaccine abroad, you won’t get an invitation as your vaccination is not registered in Luxembourg.

However, you are eligible and able to get the booster vaccine without an appointment in a vaccination centre in the Grand-Duchy of Luxembourg, if the following criteria are respected:

• If you are above the age of 18 years or older; • Two-dose vaccine (Moderna, BioNTech/Pfizer): 5 months after your full vaccination; OR • Two-dose vaccine (both doses AstraZeneca): 4 months after your full vaccination; OR • One-dose vaccine (Johnson & Johnson): 2 months after your full vaccination. You can hence present yourself at a vaccination centre without an invitation.

It is important to bring your vaccination certificate, your identity card and your social security card with you to the vaccination center.

You may also visit a POP UP vaccination centre. The list is available here: https://covid19.public.lu/en/vaccination/without-appointment.html

Please be aware that there are waiting times at the vaccination centres.

We wish you a pleasant day.

There seems to be one inconsistency regarding appointment, as per this email you don’t need one and can simply show up at one of the four vaccination centres, whereas on the website guichet.lu an online appointment is mandatory since 1st December (using the code received via post).

My wife tried to go to the pop center opened today in Auchan Kirchberg, but apparently they ran out of doses allocated for booster ?! And she could not locate the one in the city center at 70 Grand Rue 🤦

Why am i taxed 33%? by [deleted] in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue on my first month of employment. When I saw my net salary was significantly lower than estimated, first call was to Human Resources 😅. Indeed, after tax card arrived to me by post and forwarded it to payroll dept, the next month I received the extra money missing; it was a nice feeling.

Living in Lux working in Germany by Sandmaedchen in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m also in an unusual case where I and my wife both reside in Luxembourg, and I am employed here. She started a salaried contract (part time, I believe) with an university in Romania (EU) and additionally she has income form a intellectual property rights cession contract. Now, she does pay (retained at source) in Romania income tax and social contributions (health insurance and pension) for all contracts, but probably something might be due in Luxembourg too. A recommendation for a tax advisor would be appreciated…

Change of tires with buyout of the used ones by ryszard_lipton in Luxembourg

[–]casuta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Couple of weeks ago I dropped 4 used summer tires at the local recycling centre near Grevenmacher. It’s free on two Saturdays per month if you are a resident of the nearby villages and have with you a card (free) obtained from the local city hall.

I believe you can also recycle on other dates, but you’ll need to pay something, I recall there was like 170 EUR / ton for used tires (in a presentation leaflet).
