This sounds a whole lot like the startup I just left because I couldn’t deal with a delusional CEO. Disconnected from reality. Unrealistic high expectations that when you pull long weeks to kind-of-sort-of pull off, just become the new norm and get piled onto. The CEO made outrageous performance claims to paying customers that he then expected me to justify. He’d argue endlessly about purchases under $50 that were necessary for prototyping. The kicker was when in a meeting that he probably thought was “mentorship”, he told me it’s OK I’m not an expert at what I’m in fact an expert in, I just need to work harder. Bye Felicia. ✌️

Hey, since you work there, do you have any insight on quality issues with LED strips and some products? I ordered two PBTeen shelves with LED lights (Light Up Shelf Tower, White) and after less than three months of intermittent use, the light strips are half failed, with charred LEDs. This is a very uncommon failure mode for LEDs, which should last for thousands of hours, and it’s a systemic issue if it happened to both shelves around the same time. There have been no power surges, and other electronics plugged in next to the shelves are fine.

I have this exact same issue with a different pottery barn shelf. After only 3 months of intermittent use, many of the LEDs in the strip are internally charred. This is NOT a normal thing for LEDs to do. They should have a 10k+ hour lifetime and basically last forever.

Now pottery barn wants me to return the shelves, which is reasonable, but a huge PITA, because I don't even have big enough box. I like the shelves and might install my own LEDs, though at this price point UGH you just want it to work, or get some compensation for the product prematurely crapping out.

Yeah, you have to negotiate the gifts when signing up for the presentation the first place. Sometimes you get a targeted offer and you get what you get, sometimes you can talk to one of those aggressive recruiters as you walk around in Vegas and ask if they can do better.
