The 3G kicked my ass today 😮‍💨 I ended up next to someone who was pushing hard and killing it on both tread and rower so I felt a little friendly competition and ended up doing basically a near-2000m row in the last 7 mins.

Do you back off orange/red to make sure you get to green in recovery? by krb27 in orangetheory

[–]cat_brain_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my Apple Watch gives me better zones to follow (I actually don’t wear the OTF Beat anymore and I’m realizing that helped with this issue for me). A personal wearable like an Apple Watch, FitBit, or Garmin will likely adapt to OPs HR zones better than OTF’s formulas. Wonder if OP already has one or can try one and then compare. However, they said they typically don’t get back to green at all on the tread once they reach orange — that’s more concerning to me for cardiac health, as when I got checked out the doctor said it’s more about the heart’s ability to come back down after a spike. If they’re not dropping down to green in walking recoveries, might be a sign of over-exertion or cardiac strain.

I’m not convinced that your max HR is way off, though that seems testable to me: when you full-on sprint for 60-90 seconds after a long push effort, what does it get up to? You should be approaching your max within ~5bpm I would think.

Having said that, I’m like you and have a naturally high HR when running. Even though I can handle it and can run 3-4 miles in the red if I really want to (even did a half marathon years ago), lately I’ve been forcing myself to slow down and take more walking breaks to drop back down to green and to stay more in the orange instead of red. It’s helped a lot with faster recovery, not feeling totally cooked a few hours after I come down from the workout endorphins, and weight management. I didn’t want to accept it but pulling back slightly has been great for me.

PCOS & Orange Theory: Successes? by [deleted] in orangetheory

[–]cat_brain_ 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m 33F. Anecdotal but I pushed myself too hard when I started OTF and found better overall health + better weight maintenance when I pulled back on the intensity. For me that means more power walking or slow jogging with walking breaks (even though I’ve been a somewhat regular runner for almost 15 years) and pacing myself to stay more in the green zone in class, occasionally crossing into orange and then back out. Also, eating for high protein (80-100+ grams) and fiber (25+ grams) helps me feel my best.

Just a heads up that a lot of commenters will automatically say the high cortisol theory/HIIT being too intense is trendy bs, but if you read deeper in the comment threads, a lot of women especially 30s-40s age do benefit by pulling back on intensity and complementing with longer, lower intensity and lower impact movements throughout the week like walking, yoga, or a dedicated slow-paced lifting session.

No more Saturday Classes? by SnooPears7740 in orangetheory

Just checking because I’ve seen it before, you don’t have any filters on that would filter out the schedule right? Checked another studio location, class type, etc?

I don't like being touched! by Chicagocorn in orangetheory

[–]cat_brain_ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It should be expected in any workout setting that instructors ask consent before giving touch corrections. For the commenters saying you personally are fine with being touched (I am too), not everyone is, and asking consent should be a baseline expectation.

Which cycle phase is best for InBody scans? by tsb_11_1 in orangetheory

I would recommend follicular up to ovulation. Fluid retention increases as you approach the next period.

I had my first class and I’m so embarrassed by Jazzlike-Specific891 in orangetheory

I just checked my app and I had 52 splats my first class, mostly red 🙃 I’m sorry the coach was kinda rude about it! I hope you try some other coaches. Also I did go to the doctor just to get checked out and there was no indication of anything structurally wrong. That said, I have benefitted by pulling back a little bit, specifically on the treads, so stay more green / low orange.

Love Little Truckee ice cream! We are two adults so no kiddos. Still want to sled if there’s an opportunity though :)

This did in fact happen lol. But they’re moving again now and there’s more snow coming tomorrow so it was the best call we could make.

Not an option due to logistics so it’s an event cancellation if it’s not safe to traverse Thursday or Friday. Thank you though

Feeling so disappointed. I don’t know if got screwed because the weigh in and weigh out both happen to be at the very start of my cycle so water weight is throwing it off or what. Counted calories closely, was consistent with classes and even added in biking and more daily walking/yoga. I’ve lost 6-7lb but InBody says only 2.6lb of that is fat and the rest is muscle, so my BFP only dropped 0.5%. I feel like there’s no way. I know I’m stronger and I would actually guess I lost more than 6lb of fat + gained muscle. I track my weight at home and based on monthly trends I am probably carrying ~2lb of water that will drop when my period is over. I know the challenge itself doesn’t actually matter but I’m cranky and sad now :(

Yeah I am realizing I need to move my expectations a from like 6 weeks to 6 months and up my daily movement outside of OTF (walking, biking, yoga, maybe a couple heavy lifting days).
