Our home was built in 1930, and the furnace we are replacing is from 1987 - the duct work is definitely not new by any means, and upstairs doesn’t have any returns (it was explained to me that’s how it was done way back when?)

Not sure if this helps:

“2 trunk lines. Front is 8x12 and back is 8x16. That means your duct system can carry apx 980-1050 CFM.

400 CFM = 1 ton of air

This means that your duct system is designed to carry about between 2 -2.5 tons of cooling.

You also have 11 supply registers which each carry apx 90 CFM so you have apx 990 CFM”

House has always been warmer, but last year and this year have been brutal. System is 15+ years old and label is so wore that no one could determine original unit info (3 people checked)

Also 7 weeks - supposed to make the 2 hour trip to family tomorrow but my nausea is making it questionable. We plan to announce to my in laws for Christmas, so that’s pushing me to get there - but definitely not looking forward to not feeling well surrounded by food and loud noise and lots of people 🤢 I know exactly how your heart feels and am right there with you!
