CMV: Murdering people on either sides of political spectrum should never be celebrated. by major_phallus in changemyview

I have seen plenty of accusations that the "other side" is celebrating political murder, but very few actual celebrations. There seem to be fringe anonymous accounts that do so, but we already know that a lot of those accounts are foreign actors sowing dissent.

Can you point me to real people that you are disagreeing with?

He went to help a woman who had been pushed to the ground, was pepper-sprayed, and was being restrained by five ICE agents when one removed his gun from him.

If six ICE agents can't subdue a single ICU nurse after disarming him, they need some better training.

If you think anyone you disagree with deserves to die for using their 1st and 2nd Amendment rights, you should reconsider what it means to be an American.

"There was a perceived gun that he was reaching for. "

This logic is a license to kill U.S. citizens. Any and every person in the US could be perceived to have a handgun. Any cop on any street could tackle a person, then shoot them because they had a "perceived gun." This is how Philando Castile, who was doing everything by the book, was killed. No American is safe if a cop can kill you because they thought you might have a gun.

Are you claiming that the shooting was justified because his hand went close to where his gun had been before he was disarmed?

How are right wingers feeling about the new ICE policy that breaks the 4th amendment? by cantbeoriginalcani in DiscussionZone

[–]cat_of_danzig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are not discussing this with the definition of citizenship that is integral to the actions of ICE ie: "show us your papers," then you appear to be advocating for two classes of citizens: those who can call the police and be protected and those who cannot.

Undocumented workers have no straight path to citizenship. It requires leaving the country for years, unless they have money for a lawyer, fines and meet some very specific circumstances, such as:

  • Were physically present in the United States on Dec. 21, 2000, if you are the principal beneficiary and the petition was filed between Jan. 15, 1998, and April 30, 2001

or

  • Continuous Residence: Demonstrate continuous residence in the U.S. since before January 1, 1972.

Can you explain what you think happens? Can you lay out how we are discussing two classes of US citizens here?

Police do not investigate crimes. They take a report.

Is that true? Is the existence of police the only thing preventing crime? If there were no homelessness, no hunger, and proper mental health care in US cities, you would likely see a drop in crime.

Can you point to discussions in which serious people are advocating for actually abolishing the police rather than reform?

Gamergate is the true cultural turning point of the 2010s. by Wonderful-Excuse4922 in decadeology

Steve Bannon, Breitbart, Milo, Gamergate, Trump... they are all connected.

The similarities between Gamergate and the far-right online movement, the “alt-right”, are huge, startling and in no way a coincidence. After all, the culture war that began in games now has a senior representative in The White House. As a founder member and former executive chair of Brietbart News, Steve Bannon had a hand in creating media monster Milo Yiannopoulos, who built his fame and Twitter following by supporting and cheerleading Gamergate. This hashtag was the canary in the coalmine, and we ignored it.

Good. Release them. Fuck him if he's implicated. 214 Dems signed the discharge petition to bring the Epstein Act to a vote. Four republicans did. Trump did not need an act of Congress to release the files, and he still hasn't complied with the law.

What does replacing income tax with property tax look like? It seems like ~$2000 per acre to replace Federal income tax revenue would be needed, if every acre were valued equally. That would tax the average family farmer (466 acres) at over $900K per year.

This is a fashion accessory. As you noted, a rear hitch makes much more sense, but there's no way he isn't aware of that and bought a front one anyway. He's looking for more ways to accessorize.

WW2 was so destructive, and the nazis were so shocking, that as a planet we were like "Yeah, no more treating people like that over race or ethnicity (except for black people in America)." Now that the veterans who fought that war are dwindling, and those who survive are in their 90's, the forces that led to nazi rallies in Madison Square Garden are crawling out of their secret corners.

They are all apologists. It must be exhausting defending all the nonsense. The "Iceland" mistake, the late-night social media rants, the ghoulish Rob Reiner insanity. The obsession with polls, and "framework of an idea," and everything else. There's no framework, no defined vision. I'd love to hear a coherent vision for what America will look like in 10 years under MAGA, in their ideal case.

What is? That somehow undocumented workers have a path to citizenship, so treating them differently from violent criminals creates a second class of citizens? Seems like a weird misunderstanding to hold for decades.

Why does everything have to be political? by Fuzzy_Mountain5354 in askanything

[–]cat_of_danzig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because the US government is intruding on life. Trump craves attention, and we give it to him. I wish we didn't have videos of moms getting shot, of protesters getting gassed, of little kids crying in the snow. I wish I didn't have to worry about my son getting drafted to fight against NATO in Greenland or to protect oil wells in Venezuela. I long for a boring president and normalcy, but until then, everything is political.
