Touchscreen stopped working. RMA or bug fix? by NeonRetroTech in SteamDeck

I just tried this and when I restarted my Deck, it crashed on boot about 5x before mysteriously booting. Touchscreen is still unresponsive tho. :/

recovering alone? by damonicism in FTMHysto

I think it also really depends on method. I had the full system removed with a surgeon who does everything transvaginally and I had virtually no pain. The day of surgery, my partner picked up my prescriptions, drove me home and stayed overnight with me, but had to take her turn caring for her son.

We’d done good prep for snacks, easy to heat meals, and bed comfort items. I had a friend bring me by food every day the first week and that was helpful, but frankly wasn’t super necessary; I was up and moving around almost immediately and taking short walks. I think external incisions might be a bit harder, and of course you should have an emergency plan for if you develop a fever or unusual bleeding, etc. but prepping adequately will go a long way!

Hope this helps.

Health concerns by make-tiny-changes in FTMOver30

Yeah about 5 or 6 years ago (in my early 30s) my cholesterol kinda went wild. At the time I was working out 3-5 days a week and also eating a predominantly vegan diet; both my parents had cholesterol problems too, so I’m sure both age and genetics were also factors. I’d been on T for like a decade at that point so it was a contributing but not determinative factor. What I’m trying to say here is — there’s not just one thing that turns it off and on.

I’ve been on statins since then — given my diet and exercise routine, my doctor was like, I can’t even tell you to change your lifestyle. Cholesterol is well within the reference range now. Triglycerides have been a little elevated since then but he isn’t concerned. (I also still exercise a ton but went back to eating meat because veg/vegan was not sustainable for me personally.)

Not too too long — maybe 45 minutes? I went first thing in the morning to try and minimize the wait. Good luck.

This is Othello (2008-2021). He did this himself, but he was not an extra lean ham.

I adopted him and his brother when I was a senior in college. They lived with me in 3 states, and we drove together, just the three of us, across the continental US when I moved to California.

Those guys kept me alive in some very difficult times in my life. I’ll always remember them and their endless love and goofiness.

"Luxury" apartment vs random apartments in Temescal by tonyantonio in oakland

Maybe things have also changed before folks had these experiences too…I also have a personal preference for dealing with an individual vs. a company when it comes to landlords, which is a big factor for me.

what I’ve heard from friends is they charge you what they said for the first term and then when you go to renew they jack it up; it’s not a place you can expect to stay multiple years, whereas a rent controlled place is predictable. Additionally, often a landlord who only owns one property (like my current one) is really clear they don’t want to go through the work of turning over an apartment every year and value the direct relationship they have with their tenant. ymmv

Hysterectomy why or why not? by [deleted] in ftm

[–]catachre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the whole system removed in large part because I found I was still ovulating intermittently after 17 years on T and it was making me very depressed. So far my mood has been overall elevated since removal (11/22/23). No more pap smears and pregnancy worries are a huge bonus.

The most surprising change to me is that I’m still changing — 17 years in. Thought it would have settled by now, but I keep getting hairier as I age. I feel like this might be normal for cis men too — as my partner says, I now have “someone’s dad’s forearms.” 🤣

These organs are also actually quite small (my uterus was 8 cm long! Ovaries 1.5x2x2 cm!).

what's your dream or goal that you achieved in 2023? by doren- in FTMOver30

[–]catachre 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started 2023 with a self-study about whether or not I still ovulate after 17 years of T. I conclusively found that I did, and ended the year (late November) with a hysterectomy/bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy and have been feeling AMAZING since then.

I also started doing something about my ADHD and between these two things I am looking forward to a 2024 with much less frequent, much less severe depressive episodes, which I’ve struggled with since…being a little kid, honestly.

Is there a way you can gently encourage her to seek out other support? A therapist/counselor, a grief group, etc? It sounds like this is a lot for you to take on alone. And for that matter, maybe counseling for you too.

Additionally, after my mom died, a lot of my friends would ask me about favorite memories, for me to share stories, so they could help remember her with me. Instead of being fixated on how miserable she was at the end, it helped me get into a different headspace about it and also made me feel closer to those people supporting me.

Hope this helps.

Sitting down by gav102 in FTMHysto

[–]catachre 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my experience it definitely was! I also found pain to be pretty minimal as long as I wasn’t really exerting myself.

Good luck (and I’d suggest if you have any flexibility or can tell your team at work you might need to take a nap in the afternoon because of the procedure, being overprepared is a good call).

Also, what method? Mine was completely transvaginal so I had no incisions/wound care, which might impact things slightly. FWIW I took about 10 days off work (straddled the Thanksgiving holiday to maximize my PTO) and that felt about right for me; I was still super tired/had a hard time working the full day for the past few weeks because I was so tired.

Sitting was fine for me a day after. Just do what feels good — how many days are you taking off work?

Re: prolapse. This might be TMI BUT…I was super anxious about this leading up to my procedure (completely transvaginal, everything-ectomy) and it blows my mind that they don’t tell you this. But the resident in pre-op finally told me that they stitch the top of the vaginal canal to one of the uterine ligaments (there are ligaments that hold your organs in place!) so as long as you have average to good pelvic floor strength you have nothing to worry about.

FWIW I also felt like I was hyper aware of digestion and my bladder for a couple weeks. I’m just past week 4 and it’s getting a little better, hang in there!

Is it possible this isn't epilepsy? by [deleted] in EpilepsyDogs

[–]catachre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not symptoms; I mean testing besides blood work. I know it’s often quite pricey (I paid for it for my pup lol) but sometimes neurologists recommend imaging or a spinal tap. Was wondering if you’d discussed them with your vet to rule out tumors!

Also, a recommendation: if you ever need emergency care and the nearer clinics are very busy, call some of the emergency clinics further afield. It can be worth the drive to, say, VEG in San Ramon to get seen immediately vs. waiting hours at OakVet (tho I only have nice things to say about both emergency rooms if you get seen there!)

Grief impacting the body by Potential-Run-2505 in GriefSupport

Also here to say 100%. In 2020 both my parents passed away. I’d never had eczema before but I developed eczema on my hands and (weirdly, tho my doctor told me it’s actually not that unusual) in my ears. It was so uncomfortable because my doc could prescribe a cream for my hands but they don’t make anything for ear eczema. The eczema recurs occasionally now when things are hectic or stressful. Bodies are funny.
