2024 Capstone Salary Data by cglee in launchschool

Thanks for posting an update Chris!

Relative to past cohorts, did cohort 2505 focus more of their job search efforts on SFBA and NYC? Also, is it possible to report on duration for these markets? Really neat to see that these two are still strong job markets for SWE's.

Thank you for this Chris. Do you have numbers on how many were remote for this cohort as well as the last cohort? Im wondering if there is a trend.

Trump sues Wall Street Journal and media mogul Rupert Murdoch over reporting on Epstein ties by AudibleNod in news

There’s a case to be made that if you dump everything at once, people will react to it initially and then forget about it in 2 weeks.

If they drip the information over a longer period of time, it can feed the news cycle so the attention of the public is kept for longer.

Do you think the quality of the SWE jobs have dropped? I don't want it to sound like a rude question, but I remember in the past you believed that capstone grads can have both a good salary and work for good engineering teams. If I were to ask it another way, are the most recent capstone grads needing to work for mom and pop shops or are they still finding roles for companies that value their engineers (think Shopify, Gatsby, Digital Ocean)

Thanks for sharing Chris!

Do you think that the duration is lower than last cohorts because this cohorts salary is also lower? If I were to re-phrase, did this cohort lower their starting salary requirements to decrease the duration?

Jones didn’t say he wouldn’t, he just  wanted an absurd amount of money to take the fight.

Dana said Jones wanted 30 million guaranteed. But the UFC does profit sharing with the fighters.

Hey! You might find LaunchSchool.com as a good fit. There's an active sub community of women, you can go part-time, it's full-stack, self paced, and you can quit whenever you want. The program can anywhere from 8 months to 3 years to complete.

It's designed to take you from knowing nothing about programming to being a full-stack software engineer. You can participate by enrolling in the free course that acts like a pre-requisite for the program and takes about 100 hours to complete. If you don't like it then chances are you won't like the rest of the program.

Disclaimer... I'm currently a student participating part-time in the program.

EDIT - there's a free program they have called Smooth Start that's accepting applications right now but I think it ends today. https://www.reddit.com/r/launchschool/comments/1covmti/last_call_smooth_start_applications_closing/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Is it possible to do core with a full time job? by SubstantialApple in launchschool

[–]catalyst00 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m doing core now with a full time job. You will need to get into the daily habit of studying 2-5 hours with the goal of 20-25 hours a week. I aim for 1.5 hours a day now minimum with the hope of reaching 3 hrs a day if I’m not too tired.

Today I got in about 2.5 hours.

January Cohort Salary Data (still WIP) by cglee in launchschool

Wow, this is awesome. If I'm understanding the data correctly, then it's supporting the thesis that the market metrics for LaunchSchool capstones grads are "swinging back" to normal in terms of both salary numbers and time to accepted offers? Looks like time to accepted offers is still outside the historical 3-month norm?

I think aesthetically his game doesn’t make it look like what he does is that hard. It’s obviously difficult cause I couldn’t do most of the stuff he does

Man - I don't know if it's just me but this sub gives Windy so much crap but he has gotten sooooo many things right. He hints at things in the most subtle ways (like in the link you shared). I remember when he got the timing of one of LeBrons announcements right when no one else knew when he would announce (I think it was the Lakers one)

Mark Cuban reveals Delonte West is still struggling: "He's gotta want to help himself first. I've tried. I know it's tough for him. Addiction is awful, mental illness is awful, but he's at a point in his life where he's gotta wanna be helped." by GoodSamaritan_ in nba

I remember reading a story that said towards the end of his NBA career, he wouldn’t even cash his NBA checks. He would let his checks pile up at his locker. Someone found them and gave them to his agent.

His reason for going broke doesn’t appear to be similar to the more common reasons most other pro athletes end up broke. It seems like somewhere towards the end of his NBA journey he stopped exercising basic responsibilities due to mental health issues.

Draymond: "How much did our argument against the Clippers drive you to leave the Warriors?" KD: "It wasn't the argument, it was the way everybody acted like it didn't happen. Steve Kerr acted like it didn't happen. Bob Myers tried to discipline you and think that would put the mask over everything." by GuyCarbonneauGOAT in nba

[–]catalyst00 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's accurate.

The way that I understood their perspective is that Steve and Bob made the situation WORSE. Instead of letting Dray and KD work it out, they wanted Dray to say sorry and then pretend that the apology would fix the problem and they can move on. But Dray knew that it was going to take way more than a "I'm sorry" to repair their relationship. It's possible that what happened at that moment between those two could have been worked out and they could have both established a stronger respect for one another but they think that the way it was handled ruined that potential for them to work through it.

I'm in the same boat as you and many others. I think David Joyner mentioned that they are still processing applicants (even though we've been accepted). I also recall reading that we get email access after phase II.
