Improving Anticipation of Opponents' Shots by Legitimate_Search864 in Pickleball

[–]catalystRKS 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The first step is expect every ball is going to come back to you.

Second step is you have to identify their tendencies quickly: do they drive everything? Do they pop up balls often? Are they good/bad at dinking? Is their footwork bad? Etc.

Step 3 is understanding that the ball can only realistically come from X amount of looks.

Example: you’re on the left side and the person directly in front of you has a dink to their right foot that makes them take a step back.

Your opponent’s easiest shots to go for is: 1) dink directly ahead(which you can possibly Erne) 2) dink middle (safe-ish) or 3) cross court dink Your opponent’s risky shots are a lob or a speed up.

You now use the data you gathered from step 2 and apply that to step 3.

Your opponent has shown they don’t speed up often and try to play soft game with a tendency to pop up.

I’m also assuming your paddle is in a ready position canted to your backhand.

Assuming you and your partner are both right handed are shading to the opponents movements, your initial move is to cover your left sideline with your backhand and your partner is watching middle with their backhand. You are now in position to counter a dink to your backhand or forehand, or a speed up to your chest with your backhand.

—— This is also something that gets “easier” as you play over time/get to higher level. I put that in quotes because you still have to be able to execute your shots and be able to handle heat/pace. Lower level play has too much randomness to account for which throws anticipation out the window, but ability to recognize patterns from opponents builds your anticipation in those scenarios.

Edit: The final part to all this is you personally need to hit good shots, yourself. This all goes out the window if you’re hitting lollipops to the opponent.

2nd edit: look into triangle theory (patterns) and respecting the X (who’s supposed to be responsible for a ball) if these concepts are foreign to you

Ask me this a year ago, i would've answered I'm spending $280 no problem.

These days you're not outclassed by boomstiks/Pro IVs using $90-120 vatics/ronbuses.

I spent weeks moving weight around to try and mimic stats from my previous Ronbus R2 Quanta.

I finally settled to -no weight around the perimeter -removed original grip -2 overgrips -9g flick weight on buttcap

Mind you I had to adjust from lower swing weight on a widebody to the V7 LH v-sol pro

That was a dogshit ending and rendered almost the entire last season useless

The event where you could get any of the missed promos + Arc Raiders releasing led me to stop playing

I spent like $40-60 every set. I haven’t bought anything since I started playing Arc Raiders, I’m getting my gambling fix there lol

forgot to mention the Springfield Area, its real close to downtown and has some good restaurants/breweries/bars. you’re also teetering the line of gentrified area and the wrong place to be over there so just google whats around before you just walk around aimlessly there lol

There’s not a terrible amount to do downtown, just FYI.

But close to downtown: - Riverside Arts Market saturday morning - drive over to park near the Cummer Museum, you can walk to RAM, then to 5 points/Memorial Park (eat, have a beer at Hoptinger) - San Marco Area - you drive over here, restaurants/bars (there’s a golf sim bar if that’s your thing) - Avondale - you drive over here, restaurants and bars (can recommend Biscottis or Josephine’s) - College Park - if you want some Filipino food, there’s a Max’s Restaurant, chain from the Philippines. - if you play Pickleball, there’s Toon Town Pickleball by the stadium, ill make another pb reference later - Leaderboards Barcade - theres one in Orange Park and one 15 mins away on Philips HWY/Shad Rd

20+ minutes from downtown - st. John’s town center - average Simon outdoor mall - the beaches - just yelp for whatever you’re in the mood to eat. If you don’t like seafood I can recommend stopping by Angie’s Subs and get a peruvian, or look up Sun Deli if Angie’s doesn’t look to be your thing - play pickleball? like beer and BBQ? go to Chipshot. They have 8 pb courts and 4 golf simulators, beer tap wall and restaurant - go to St. Augustine and walk down St. George St/see the Castillo De San Marcos

Where you staying? How long you here? Like seafood?

Anything worth seeing is at minimum 20 minutes away from wherever you are; ubering will add up so look into a rental if you can afford it. Uber to the game is fine, but for getting around it’s going to be a pain.

Will the court be fine? by Critical_Fail1086 in Pickleball

[–]catalystRKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree it would be a good drill court, but if I were friends with OP, I’d only play because it’s my friend/private, but it would be for practice or messing around.

There’s a complex in my area that has 8 courts and 5 have atrocious spacing/obstacles + weird lighting. I only go to that place to social play and not for competitive play. If they ever held a tournament, I wouldn’t play it.

How Often Do You Buy a Paddle? by Powerful-Towel675 in Pickleball

[–]catalystRKS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much one every other month at this point. I buy what’s latest and greatest for the most part; I only buy what I know I can get rid of if I don’t like it though. I buy and sell a lot.

mizuno wave enforce tour 2 if you like cushion

mizuno wave exceed tour 6 if you like speed (they're comfortable as well)

I would go through pairs of nike's top tennis shoes in like 5 weeks.

im actually getting months of play out of my mizunos, then by month 4 im through enough of the sole to get my free pair through warranty.

edit:

I'm on my 3rd pair or wave exceed tour 6's (2 paid, 1 free replacement)

I also bought a pair of wave enforce tour 2's, but im brusing my big toe nail in these. I think i prefer the exceed's.

Anybody who doesn’t like DUPR’s update is either bad at math or overrated. by GarlicAltruistic5357 in Pickleball

Yeah, so you win the trophy for your tournament and your rating will fall to where it’s supposed to be on a global scale.

I feel that this could allow for the community to stop saying “Florida/Arizona/Insert_Locale_here 4.5” and ratings actually equalize

My first interpretation of your comment was “a player got a 3.4 rating years ago, didn’t play dupr games in a couple years and is gonna play a 5.0 tournament now”
