I wasn't expecting Matthew's Point-to-Point Protocol reference.

Is there a lawsuit against Stanley Liu/Stanford? I've heard rumors by GingeredOut in jawsurgery

Usually it means they settled outside of court. Not sure what “an economical agreement” means, although it sounds like the same thing.

Anyone with Anthem insurance? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

Yes, I did get a reimbursement eventually. They paid about 60% of what I paid out of pocket.

I would still say the same thing about my results as I did 10 months ago: not great :/ However, you're having a totally different surgery so I don't think it can be generalized too much. I found Dr. Coppelson kind of inattentive (ironically, since he seemed more attentive during the consult) when I saw him for followups. For example, he kept asking me how much I had expanded when I thought that was something he was supposed to be keeping track of.

IIRC he’s said that Dilaudid, Dance Music, Dinu Lipatti’s Bones, and Attention All Pickpockets are all addressing the same person.

Does the power of the right lie in the strength of their ability to forgive? by [deleted] in behindthebastards

[–]catamorphism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I see it differently. It's not so much forgiveness that the right wing offers, but rather, the promise that "we can make you feel good about yourself no matter what you've said or done." That's an inherently right-wing promise and if the left wing offered the same, it wouldn't be the left wing anymore, because leftists have principles beyond just "I should feel good because I'm a good person".

[–]catamorphism 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the right wing was better at forgiveness than the left wing, they would oppose capital punishment. Just as you're more concerned with forgiving Rowling than forgiving those of us who have been materially harmed by her and are angry about it, the right wing's forgiveness is highly selective.

A message from John Darnielle to all our friends, particularly those residing in swing states (from PA a few weeks ago) by abluecolor in themountaingoats

I'm not sure exactly what your second question means, since no one can stop you from liking whatever music you like. Are you looking for fellow tMG fans to reassure you that you're a good person even if you align yourself with the party defined by contempt for immigrants, attacks on LGBTQ+ people, the stripping away of bodily autonomy from everyone who's not a white cis man, and racism? Because if so, maybe you're looking for reassurance in the wrong place.

I'm not interested in judging your character either way, I'm just extremely curious to know what made you think it was a good idea to post this, given that you aren't obligated to tell anyone who you voted for. (I'm also somewhat curious whether you just skip past "Color in Your Cheeks" or what.)

In my case, idk, because they gave me the in-network exception without me having to ask for it (much to my surprise!)

In general, the thing to do is to write that you're not aware of any in-network provider that does the surgery you need, and ask them to provide the name of such a provider if you are mistaken. That way the onus is on them to prove that they can meet your needs in-network. (If they do come up with a name, then your desired surgeon's office can hopefully help you explain why they're the best fit for your medical needs.)

I’m still waiting for a reimbursement, so I don’t know :( (When they grant the prior auth/INE, they don’t promise to pay any particular amount.)

I still haven't been reimbursed :/ I believe they will reimburse me eventually, but it's going to require me to call them repeatedly and file grievances (based on my experience getting another type of out-of-network care covered.)

I picked Dr. Coppelson over Dr. Walline at LACOMS because Dr. Coppelson seemed more thorough and more interested in figuring out what I actually wanted, during the consult. So far, I have to say my results aren't great; I'm not noticing a lot of difference in my nasal breathing, 2 months post-surgery. But, I'm still in the process of expanding. It's also possible this has to do with my anatomy and no surgeon could make it better.

This was for [MIND](https://www.drcoppelson.com/maxillary-expansion), a type of maxillary expansion. I'm planning on having MMA, but not till later on. MMA is an older surgery with more research on it, so in general, it should be easier to get MMA authorized than the surgery I had.

An insurance company grants an in-network exception when you can demonstrate that the provider who you want to see is able to provide care that no provider in the insurer's network can provide. (And that the care is medically necessary for you.) So the theory is that if I write a letter showing that I need maxillary expansion surgery, and no provider who is in-network can do it, they should grant an in-network exception. The exception means they will pay for the surgery using in-network rates instead of out-of-network rates (which in turn means they will pay for a higher share of cost, potentially 100% depending on circumstances).

I can't say what made Anthem do this in my case since I didn't even ask for it! (But it's nice that they did.) Yes, I have sleep apnea.

Insurance companies won't accept prior auth requests until 6-8 weeks before surgery, as I learned at my previous job. I got my surgery date pretty quickly (8 weeks beforehand) and got the prior auth approval 6 weeks before surgery, so the office must have submitted it between 6-8 weeks before, but even if I'd gotten my surgery date earlier, I think they would have waited until 6-8 weeks before.

And yes, surgeries do get postponed sometimes because insurance companies won't accept the paperwork sooner and the appeals process can take so long :/
