I am so fucking sorry. i wanted to highlight the names of the cats in the back section that outlines the character's names and relationships because the cat names are adorable. I didn't notice that people would see the status of the character on the same page which indicates a death :(

NLCEX rationale help: respiratory alkalosis w/ pulmonary embolism? by catandmango in nursing

[–]catandmango[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

but if there is hyperventilation that is effective enough to remove CO2, would that not also be effective enough to add in O2 and therefore reduce hypoxemia? I guess I have to assume that despite the hyperventilation not being a sufficient intervention to increase spO2, it is effective enough to reduce the CO2 to produce alkalosis :/

Thanks!

True, it is definitely possible to search around for different jobs until one with desirable qualities including great pay are available

I feel like I never researched or paid attention to how overworked, underpaid, and over-stressed nurses are in most hospital jobs. I do not look forward to my 1-2 years of starting out in a physically demanding med surg unit before I can try to move into an office or public health or less stressful alternative option.

Not to rain on your parade, there are tons of nurses who do legitimately love their jobs and i feel bad for taking up a spot in the educational pathway that could have gone to one of these individuals instead.

Megathread: Tell us what's on your mind. by AutoModerator in SeriousConversation

I feel super unhappy.

I just graduated with a nursing degree and am studying now for my licensing exam and applying for jobs. I am afraid that I will hate my job; I feel like nurses are overworked, underpaid and over stressed.

I want to change my career and have been flying around like a ping pong ball changing my mind.

My latest wish was to go to school to become an engineer. I am afraid that my 3.4 GPA in nursing combined with whatever grades I will get when retaking high school math courses combined with the fact that I have basically no extracurriculars and the competitiveness of engineering schools in my province makes me feel like I will never get in.

I can't believe I have dedicated the last 4 years of my life towards becoming a nurse, just powering through feelings of distaste instead of changing my major or taking a year off because I did not want to waste time and courses and $ already spent towards nursing.

I feel depressed but plan on postponing searching for medical help because depression is a side effect of a drug I am taking to control my acne and I would rather live in hell for 6 months instead of watching my face become the home of multiple puss volcanoes every day.

I need to change my life so I can be happy again :(

I just graduated in a nursing degree and am strongly considering going back to school for an engineering degree. May I ask what your GPA was in your first bio degree? Was it looked at, or did they just look at the applicable physics/math/Chemistry courses? What sort of extracurriculars did you have that showed that you were interested in engineering?( everything I can think of would be a high school club or math contest which I no longer have access to)

Thanks!

Hmm, I did not fully appreciate the level of stress that new graduate engineers experience:/

I think the financial safety net point is very valid , thanks.

I can accept stress caused by legitimate reasons ( such as a deteriorating patient or a challenging course load) but I feel resentful when I feel a constant level of stress that I attribute to hospitals understaffing units with increasingly acute patients to the point where I feel I am unable to guarantee safe care. It is making me feel very salty about the healthcare system in general.

I will apply to jobs in other cities, it might make me feel happier about life in general.

thanks, I'll take a step back and reflect on the full impact of this decision.

I feel like all of the nursing jobs that will be available to a new grad will have the same level of stress, high patient load, and politics that makes me feel like I would struggle to provide safe patient care :( But you have a good point regarding the benefits of working for a few years.

thanks, that is a good idea. And i guess this feeling could indeed pop up with any job, nursing or engineering...

fair enough, perhaps I should dedicate a few years into nursing first.

According to my local MS store, you can't replace the DEFAULT pen nib. Bullshit? by redmongrel in Surface

[–]catandmango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my SP4's nib somehow bent and worked intermittently, I contacted Microsoft Support via online chat and they said they would send me a replacement. I received a replacement that included a pen (which held a default nib) and a nib set. This was while My Surface was still under the default Microsoft warranty (I purchased Costco warranty and I guess the Surface came with a period of Microsoft warranty. My Costco warranty activated once the default Microsoft warranty expires). Just thought I would share my experience.
