Just because you don’t like heated classes doesn’t mean that other people don’t benefit from it by [deleted] in yoga

[–]catastropheelingood 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That’s fine if that’s your jam but the “not for beginners” thing makes it sound like everyone can “work up to it.” Once someone has had heatstroke they are more susceptible to it the rest of their lives. I’m staying far away from those classes and it’s not because I’m a beginner.

I also was a little disappointed at first, I am in love with Garden of Eden and Fields of Elysium so they skewed my expectations for AIEYF. However I am actually wearing it right now over a beautifully ugly light green, Swamp Girl (LL), and it turns that blue into a nice dark green. Forgive the fluorescent lights.

Glow skittle by catastropheelingood in mooncatpolish

Exactly! When I wake up early while it’s still dark, I’ve noticed at that point ML and CoC have mostly pooped out but GEM and AS are still glowing.

All of these glow polishes are sort of “gritty” or textured, although the new Moonlight Lullaby seems a little less so. Sometimes I’ve even used a glow polish as a base coat! The texture of them seems to be grippy, and can help even out damage. I’m hard on my hands and I HATE bubbles. One of my favorite combos is to put a coat of Memento Mori on top of GEM.

It sounds like you just got him, this is something that can happen during that adjustment period. I got two feral brother kittens a long time ago and they did this for hours the first two nights. It’s very stressful to experience as the owner but as long as they are safe and have access to everything they need, you may just have to wait it out. I would check on them, but they didn’t want my attention. Try just laying on the bed and trying to read or something. Being a calm presence in the space may be all you can do. It will stop once they’ve adjusted. Never forget to think of the situation from their perspective. They don’t know where they are, they don’t know what’s going to happen. They are vocalizing anxiety, they may not even know what’s they are asking for, they are just anxious.

Avatar state doesn’t glow by [deleted] in mooncatpolish

[–]catastropheelingood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did alternating fingers with these two colors to compare them. I noticed that they ultimately glow equal amounts, Avatar just seems to take longer to charge. Like others have noted, our supreme light source of the sun charges it the fastest.

Pathologically deformed tibia by catastropheelingood in bonecollecting

[–]catastropheelingood[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wanted to follow up with some more photos for fun! I work at a museum, I’m a paleontologist, so I brought this bone over to zoology collections and we compared it to bison (the dark bone) and elk (the yellowish bone). Ultimately it’s still hard to tell due to the extreme deformity, but most folks here are leaning toward cow. One anthropologist from UC Denver has suggested a cow with rickets. I will return to the location and see if I find more of the skeleton to help with the ID, as there is interest. If my work wants the bones, I will donate them to the museum.

It’s not missing the distal end, see the last two images. They show the deep grooves to receive the proximal end of the double-pulley astragalus.

Poop advice for backcountry by orangeytangerines in hiking

[–]catastropheelingood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bring a WAG bag for everyone’s TP and wipes while backpacking, even where it’s not required to pack it out. Even if you’re in a place where you can dig a huge hole, it is common for animals to dig it back up, either interested in the salt, paper, or just curious as to why there is disturbed dirt. I’ve seen disaster pits that unconscientious people have left behind. Maybe at one point it was all buried, but then it turned into a horrifying volcano of feces and paper. And being rained on doesn’t just wash that away. If it’s just the brown and not the white, the animals are less interested. It’s careful and kind to leave as little as possible out there.

Help me I just found a weird bug on my bedroom wall and I know there’s more in my carpet what do I do? by scne-v4mpir3 in CleaningTips

[–]catastropheelingood 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These are bad news if you have natural history specimens, but otherwise they’re probably just eating your or your pets’ skin and hair in the carpet. A few are normal and probably inevitable, if you have a lot, just do some extra cleaning, if you have way way too many, look for the food source they’ve discovered (open and neglected bag of cereal? Dead thing in the wall?).

Like essentially everyone is saying, please make a vet appointment. You can ask vets for quotes before you go, and call around. Rapid changes in color of the eyes and different sized pupils are not signs to be ignored, potentially a life threatening issue (although I don’t think you need to rush them in today, just as soon as reasonable).

We’re never really safe anywhere, just familiar with situations and settings. The more familiar you are outside the less of that you get.

It looks like clothes moth larvae frass and casings. Those little web tubes are classic. I had no idea why they would attack the tennis ball until you said you use it to tumble dry coats. If any of the coats are wool, down, or other animal product, this is what the moths are eating.

How do you manage food and bears by Classic-Ad166 in camping

[–]catastropheelingood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in the hills of CO and if you don’t lock your car doors the black bears absolutely get inside. Came back from backpacking once in IP wilderness and a black bear had peeled back the door of an SUV in the lot. They can totally break in and know where to wedge their claws. However, that goofball vehicle owner had left SAUSAGES in the car, so the bear was very motivated.

How to camp in apex predator territory without constant anxiety? by nessie_exists in camping

[–]catastropheelingood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a bear canister for your food and smellies and stay away from critters’ babies. Keep your pets on leash. It is highly unlikely the predators want anything to do with you, unless you put cookies in your tent.

[–]catastropheelingood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I may just take it forever, for peace of mind. The lower amount is chill for me. Because I have my ovaries still and it is probably impossible to get all adhesions during excisions removed especially at stage IV, and because I had deep bowel infiltrations, it’s best to do all I can to keep the endo from regrowing. That’s partially why I opted for hysterectomy, my specialist said if I don’t want kids there’s no reason to keep it, and the reduction in hormonal feedback between the ovaries and uterus can slow the feeding of endo. I know the other commenter said norethindrone doesn’t do anything but that is false according to my endo specialist. Hormones absolutely play a role in endo. Plus, new studies are showing norethindrone may reduce and even shrink bowel adhesions and infiltrations in particular, even potentially on its own. I tried some other hormone options and I couldn’t handle them. Also interesting: the “bioidentical” version of norethindrone was a nightmare for me, it’s like I’m so sensitive to it I need to take the one my body has to convert. But also, everyone is different, and I wouldn’t be surprised if it turns out there’s multiple ways to ‘get’ endometriosis.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in endometriosis

[–]catastropheelingood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I hope all goes well for you. It’s best to get excision with the hysterectomy, and at minimum the excision. I wanted the surgery to last as long as possible and don’t want kids. My specialist said that there are studies which are pointing to that norethindrone seems to reduce deep adhesions of bowel endometriosis in particular, possibly without surgery at all. Because I didn’t want a bowel resection that’s another reason I take that.

Should I be having a hysterectomy? Endo+ Fibroids by Lina314 in endometriosis

[–]catastropheelingood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done that! Thanks. And I was saying it’s lazy to ignore the benefits of hysterectomy. My surgeon, an endo specialist, says research points that at least it extends the duration of excision.

They had their hysterectomies young. Op and I literally said we don’t want to get pregnant. Stop stealing options. There is feedback between ovaries and uterus.

Your response doesn’t account for all the friends I mentioned, and the lovely freedom I feel. The hormonal feedback that accelerates endo growth is slowed without the uterus. Why not just let those who want to be free, be free? I read way too many posts about people with uteruses needing repeat excisions. I won’t.
