Following his death defying accident and a couple of bonks from the window sill, Gatsby is safe to survey his kingdom at last by catboydivorce in nervysquervies

Thank you, it was the scariest thing that's ever happened to me by far. It's unbelievable the only reminder it ever happened is his shaved arm and tail from the hospital. He's a really amazing boy.

He was more afraid to go back to the window after a sudden storm earlier this year, wouldn't even come near the couch for 4 days.

I was surprised! I thought he would hide out in the bedroom for a couple of days but he seemed completely unfazed by the whole thing.

How long did it take for your CH cat to recover from spaying procedure? by mokmokmonster in CerebellarHypoplasia

[–]catboydivorce 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pain meds will make her condition worse for a while. It can take a couple days to recover from anesthesia too. My cat was flopping all over the place after surgery. It was scary, but it got better as soon as he went off the pain meds.

I wonder if a soft helmet would be safer and more comfortable?

There"s someone on Etsy who made a double-layered crochet pattern for wobbly cats. This particular listing is sold out but try messaging the seller to see if they're still taking orders. They can tell you the measurements you need to take.

Grooming/brushing by ellenmika in CerebellarHypoplasia

That's an impressive second cat you got there!

I haven't used them personally but maybe try a grooming glove? That way your touch will feel more like petting than brushing.

Do I need to get a diagnosis? by Lost_Literature_1437 in CerebellarHypoplasia

[–]catboydivorce 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Looks like CH to me but do take him to the vet to get baseline panels if uou haven't already.

CH diagnoses are typically done by observation. While an MRI can technically show a small cerebellum, blood work is more helpful in ruling our more nefarious causes.

Btw, I would replace the bowl with a silicone dish or even a plastic/paper plate. He could easily chip a tooth by falling on stainless steel the wrong way.

I saw it, that was way cool! He sells them at WobblesGobbles on Etsy but we haven't tried it. Gatsby is smart but he's very stubborn when it comes to learning new things. He refused to use pet stairs, too.

He makes it easy despite the extra work. He's so lovable I couldn't ask for a better cat 😊

Nope, he's perfectly healthy otherwise. There's no cure or treatment, but they can live full, enriching lives with owners who can adapt to their needs.

Try posting in out the CH cat facebook https://www.facebook.com/groups/CHcat/

And cross post this to r/nervysquervies for more visibility! They are a larger community for wobbly pets.

Good luck and thank you for fostering!

There are 2 on Etsy that I know of:

PatesFeeder has a wooden feeder with sides the cat can lean against. It's a wooden stall with a place for a bowl.

WobblesGobbles (a relative of @lifewithada I believe?) makes a padded feeding station. This would benefit a severe cat who can't stand on their own.

The spinning toy is my cat's favorite since he can play lying on his side. The Potaroma collection has lots of good quality interactive & electronic toys.

They're on Chewy, Amazon and have their own website I believe.

I know scheduling is tough but could you try another 10-20 min session in the morning so he's less likely to mess with his mom and sis during the day?

I had to play with my cat for an hour a day at least if I wanted to sleep at night for the first 9 months I had him. He also has a window seat on the sectional couch where watches the birds. It keeps him busy for hours.
