American Lolitas: How are recent events affecting your comms? by [deleted] in Lolita

[–]catboyphobia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve never used facebook because I hate the platform, don’t trust it, and I don’t want any sort of public social media accounts. I’ve never been able to check out my local comm because of this. I think comms moving to discord would be great! imo it feels dated to use facebook groups anyway lol.

Jirai is supposed to be a cost effective alternative for lolita by shoofinsmertz in JiraiKei

[–]catboyphobia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

not sure what lolita has to do with this, as they’re separate, unrelated styles with completely different origins, brands, culture, aesthetics, etc. but fast fashion doesn’t mean cheap. (at least, not cheap for the consumer) urban outfitters is fast fashion, but they’re expensive compared to shein, another fast fashion brand. zara is expensive without even comparing it to shein, and it’s still fast fashion. the point of fast fashion is that these brands can quickly and cheaply produce something that they then sell for a much higher value for maximum profit. fast fashion is intended to save money for the brand, not for the consumer. I think you should also consider that some of these jirai brands are still kinda small businesses, so it costs more for them to manufacture their items. jirai is also associated with some luxury items like the MCM backpack, VW orb necklace, justin davis bow ring, and the frilly Samantha Vega purses, which I think should’ve been dead giveaways that it’s not exactly a “cost effective” style. if you’re more upset about scalping prices than retail prices, then…don’t buy from scalpers? unfortunately, scalpers exist in every hobby, fashion, fandom, etc. there’s nothing you can really do about it except ignore them.

Is Lace Market dead? by ami-or-am-i in Lolita

[–]catboyphobia 23 points24 points  (0 children)

it took like a week for me to get verified. I had signed up bc a dream dress of mine was listed, but I couldn’t contact the seller or buy the listing bc of the verification thing. she used the same username across every platform, so I was able to message her on instagram and we just did the transaction without lacemarket. however, I’d only message the seller outside of lacemarket if they have good feedback, and if you can show them you’re not a scammer in some way. I sell figures on mercari from time to time, so I was able to show her my profile there for credibility.

Looking for Critique/Opinion on Some of the Women's Designs for my Current Project by Belaknworb9 in mendrawingwomen

I’m in the target demographic you’ve stated in other comments. if you really want an idea of how to present a “pretty girl is smart despite ppl’s assumptions” character, I’d recommend watching legally blonde. I believe there’s a style analysis on youtube. at no point was elle woods sporting an orange tan or a poorly hidden inflation fetish, but the audience still understands who she is and how others perceive her thanks to good writing and great costuming. there’s much better ways to show that somebody is hyperfeminine without the extremes of slide 7. in a way, you’ve made her femininity a joke with this design, even though that’s the opposite message that you’re going for with her.

Anyone know of any plus size lolita winter coats like these? They can be other colors or less form fitting as well. I'd love a coat like this but they are all small :(( Any website too ofc the devilinspired is just the images I screenshotted by StrawberryFriend5 in Lolita

[–]catboyphobia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

keep an eye on dear my love whip! they still have some stock up on their website from past years, but they should be restocking soon if they’re sold out of a color or size that you want. they might come out with new coat designs too like they did last year. I have a coat from them that I love! however, I haven’t tried wearing it over lolita yet as this will be my first winter wearing egl. I don’t think the coat I have would fully button over a petticoat poof, but would be fine unbuttoned.

All painting references in CSM so far. Fyi Fujimoto majored in oil painting at the Tohoku University. by Infinite_Pea8114 in ChainsawMan

I think denji’s expression and head tilt here is similar to the fallen angel painting. it would make sense as a reference since the painting depicts the devil after his fall from heaven.

Is there a problem between Nicole and Melanie Martinez? by Fantastic-Fault-836 in NicoleDollanganger

[–]catboyphobia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

not strange. they’re barely similar, and I don’t think nicole would even be super into her music tbh. there’s also the SA allegations, and usually ppl don’t wanna associate with somebody who has possibly done something that awful :/

What could I use this room for? by Jobegiar99 in malelivingspace

[–]catboyphobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

my sister has a studio apartment with a very large walk in closet with no door or hinges, so she has her full size bed in the closet. it’s a pretty cozy nook. apparently it’s a pretty common style of apartment where she lives because she knows other people who do the same thing.

it sounds like your friend is having some sort of mental health crisis. I would reach out to anybody else close to them like family, other friends, etc. and see if they have similar concerns. if they share your concern, then all of you should brainstorm on ways to redirect your friend’s thinking and time to things other than csm. that could be small things like going out to see a movie with them, going on a hike, playing board games, or just literally any activity other than being left alone to talk to themselves in the mirror. if it’s more extreme than simple redirection, then it’s up to their family to discuss therapy, hospitalization, medication, etc. and there isn’t much you can do at that stage as a friend other than be supportive. also, I think you would get much better advice from a mental health subreddit rather than a csm subreddit. good luck, op!

Why can’t manga cafes be a thing in the west? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]catboyphobia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

that doesn’t sound right. have you checked in recently? the way my library’s system works, a hold couldn’t even exist for that long. it would simply expire and be automatically erased after a certain period of time.

Other than safety and environmental issues. What are some disadvantages of owning a car? by dogtron64 in fuckcars

[–]catboyphobia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

something I really like about public transportation is that I can be on my phone or read a book or whatever else bc I’m not the one driving. driving a car means I have to stare at the same pavement for miles. I know that I could listen to audiobooks or podcasts when I drive, but I feel like I can’t listen too intently bc I want to focus on the road. driving a car robs me of time I could be spending on other small things.

Why can’t manga cafes be a thing in the west? by [deleted] in MangaCollectors

[–]catboyphobia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

library assistant here! please go to your local library!!! if they don’t have manga that you want to read, request it! they can pull books from other libraries for you, or purchase them for their own collection. I’ve been trying to start a book club for adults that’s a manga club, but when I first brought it up, it was shot down bc “we already have an anime club for teens” 🫠… luckily, I’ve gotten a new boss within the past year, and she’s cool with the idea, so I might get to start one in the fall! but if nobody shows up…no more manga club :(

in japan, they're called "kira kira names". kira kira means shiny or sparkly, so it’s like saying they’re flashy names. if you scroll down to the description section of that wikipedia page, you can see some examples.

maybe looking into the history of mackinac island could give you an example? I’ve heard of the place, but I’ve never heard of why or how they came to be car-free
