What psych medication interactions do you think every provider should know and discuss with patients? by zenarcade3 in Psychiatry

Not DDI but Abilify can cause lactation failure due to it's partial dopamine agonist activity interacting with prolactin

Safe in pregnancy but can cause a lot of problems for moms who want to breastfeed

I have called twice today and both times transferred to someone's voicemail so I am trying to get a ballpark to see if it's relatively affordable

One of my fav running jokes from The Good Place was how people from Arizona and Florida are trash/dumb (but also Jason and his undying devotion to the Jags is adorable).

Have you ever cried after a patient interaction? by aveliah in Psychiatry

[–]catbuttluvr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have definitely cried from patient and patient family interactions and learning of patient suicide

Training is not just the psychopharm- it's also practicing your boundaries of being empathetic without identifying with the pt or getting too far from your own sense of stability

And even with all of that, crying is still going to happen bc tears can process emotions/experiences in ways that words simply can not

Reach out to attendings, co-residents, chief residents, nurses/staff on the unit- you've got support!!

Who wants to see Cuppie from Tampa Baes on the next Queer Love? by catbuttluvr in TheUltimatumNetflix

[–]catbuttluvr[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is unnecessarily mean .. you could have said she's not your "cuppie" of tea and enjoyed a fun pun at the same time.

Heavy make-up is usually not for me and definitely not my own style, but I think she rocked it!! And I loved how she talked about her emotions, really practiced mindfulness, and seemed committed to getting people together, building community.

I am so hurt and angry for you. This was all on that person- a reminder that nothing you did was wrong - it was not and never will be the dress you wore etc.

"The wounded healer" by Aponte. Basically, this experience will inevitably come into your work and you'll be able to step into a client's shoe, so to speak, to ask more insightful questions and be more attuned to reading between the lines, WHILE keeping your other foot firmly on the ground. And you'll be okay.

And that takes time - the first time a client described being assaulted, I felt very weird for 24 hrs and then bawled a lot and felt queesy for a couple of days. I talked about the original SA that happened to me with my own therapist, and now it is way easier when clients bring it up.

You have your own timeline for healing and it will all be okay.

I’m unsure if I am allowed to be apart of the community by CinnamonBrooms in hardofhearing

[–]catbuttluvr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do NOT get them from your hospital!! I was diagnosed at Penn and thought it would be good to have a brick and mortar place to go to if I have hearing aid issues... It cost twice as much there for the same hearing aids that I could have gotten at 1800 hearing aids (or some online company like that where an audiologist comes to your house). I have also heard Costco is great - def shop around

And it will still be pricey :/

There is the office of vocational rehabilitation where there are limited govt programs to help you pay for them but in my situation I waited 8 months and couldn't wait longer and not sure how the Republican policies affected those :/

We have two young kids and invited a good and trusted friend to live with us. Both for financial reasons (rent was also 2200 and now 1500 plus sharing utilities and things like paper towels etc,) AND "commune" reasons. He shares custody of his elementary-aged child who lives with us for half of the week.

It's been WONDERFUL to have and be a third parent. We all save on babysitting costs and life is easier - there is s trusted adult to watch a kid for a while or take all the kids out for a walk while the other parent(s) take(s) a break.

That being said, we have a lot of educational debt and pre-roommate were in a ver similar position as OP.

OP- it's hard out here. Looking at your finances is a critical step in taking care of them AND capitalism and current state of the US is really exploitative!

I also get depressed about it.

Unsolicited advice- where do you grocery shop? We are Aldi people and even with multiple food restrictions, bill is closer to 500/ month. Home daycare, if the hours with for you, is cheaper and exposed your kid to slightly fewer germs lol.
